Harlem Globetrotters at 1st Summit Arena: Johnstown, PA

When I was growing up I remember hearing about the Harlem Globetrotters. Maybe the thing that stands out to me the post was seeing them in a couple episodes of Scooby Doo. I mean, they must be something if they were cartoonized with Scooby Doo right?

Fast forward years later. I have my own kids. And the Harlem Globetrotters are coming close to my little town. I had to take my kids. My littlest ones aren’t really into basketball but they were entertained the whole time. They were fascinated by the tricks and athleticism. Then of course they loved Globie and BIG G.

The Harlem Globetrotters newest event Spread Game did not disappoint.

Visiting the 1st Summit Arena in Johnstown, PA is great too because the concessions are affordable, there’s plenty of seating for the shows they have, and it’s not hard to find.

I made a short clip on instagram with some of the play action. This was actually a mild part of the game/show.

My daughter favorite part was Big G though. She thought that was hilarious. It’s basically a big version of Globie. He bounces around on his head and everything else. She was laughing the whole time he did his performance.

They also have a merch stand available with Harlem Globetrotters basketballs, shirts, sweatbands, lariats, and more. Word of advice, bring something from home or consider making a purchase to get signed. All the players are available after the game to sign items and take pictures. They have small kids size basketballs for $20 and regular size basketballs for $30. That’s what we like to get. From each of the shows my kids went to they now each have their own autographed Harlem Globetrotters basketball.

I love that they have a diverse group of players on the team too. My kids each have their favorites. My daughter loved that fact that there was a female players. She was so excited to meet her.

Challenger International Soccer Camp 2019

For the 2nd year in a row my kids participated in the Challenger International Soccer Camp. My son is 10 and my daughter is 6. They both ended up being in the same 1/2 day camp.

Our group was very small. Only about 5 kids. I thought this was amazing though because the kids got so much attention. I was a little worried about my daughter only being 6 in with kids several years older than her and being the only girl. The other boys were very kind to her and the coach was very encouraging.

We had a couple days of rain so the camp was done in the school’s gym.

My kids really enjoy the Challenger International Soccer Camps. They learn new skills, they make it fun, and they get to meet other kids from around the area. They are sincerely interested in learning. As a mother it’s great to see how well the coach worked with the kids. I liked that they were given homework each night of camp to learn more about international soccer and other counties.

At the end of camp the coach hand wrote feed back for each kid both positive and brought each kids up to talk about their critique. I really feel like the kids get a lot out of the camp.

2019 Pittsburgh Children’s Film Festival Preview: Get Your Tickets Now

Discover the odd, colorful, and delightful world of children’s cinema this summer at the 2019 Pittsburgh Children’s International Film Festival. Join us July 26 – August 1 for week-long line up of children’s films that range from blockbuster hits to fun and quirky international flicks.

The festival will feature several Pittsburgh premiers, as well as the best short films from the 2019 New York International Children’s Film Festival. Complimentary special events, guest appearances, and hands-on activities are planned throughout the week.

The festival will be hosted at Row House Cinema in Lawrenceville, which will play movies at a lower volume to protect young ears and provide kid friendly snacks at select screenings. In the spirit of the festival, children are welcome to move around the theater, chat, and just be kids.

We had the opportunity to visit Rowhouse Cinemas in Lawrenceville to get a sneak peak of the 2019 Pittsburgh Children’s festival. This was our first time visiting Row House Cinemas.

Right in the middle of Lawrenceville sits this super cute single screen theater. As we walked in , framed movie posters are displayed on the wall. we were greeted by friendly staff. The familiar smell of popcorn in the air. A unique feature is the shop, Bierport, to your right where you can purchase craft sodas and beers that can be brought into the theater if you wish. The theater itself offers all natural popcorn with real butter. During the film festival kids’ snack packs will be available with popcorn and juice boxes.

We got to screen The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales a French/Belgian animated comedy. There were three short films included each one was cute and entertaining. The kids talked about which one was their favorite after. Definitely something different to see. You’ll be able to see this film and other during the Children’s Film Festival this summer!
