This Is How We Do Football Game Parties Frugal Style

My family is a big football family.  So the “Big Game” is a a big event in our family. Every year we have a Big Game party no matter what teams are playing. So the Patriots vs Falcon game was no different.  Each year our parties consist of family, significant others, and a few friends.  No less than about 18 and have been upwards of 25 people.  This year, if my count was right, we had 22 people at our house for the Big Game.  So how do we throw big game parties that makes them ask “Can we have it at your house again this year?” and not break that bank doing it?  I’m  here to share some tips.

Facebook Events

LOVE using Facebook events pages to invite people, keep people up to date, and keep track of info.  No having to buy paper invites for an informal party. Facebook sends them event reminders when the event gets closer and people are more apt to RSVP I’ve found.  AND…it’s free

Cover Dish

Don’t spend loads of money and stress out for two days over a big party.  Tell everyone it’s cover dish and ask them what they’d like to bring.  If people aren’t sure what to bring you can either appoint them items or give them a choice of a couple things to bring.  I know my dad doesn’t cook much but usually has a steady supply of drink boxes and soda on hand so I usually appoint him that.  Some have signature dishes like my cousin’s vegetable pizza or my aunt’s cheeseball.  You can even tell people to bring chips and pretzels if you know they’re probably too busy to make anything or don’t want to put a more expensive item on their plate.  If you take the Facebook Events tip and use it, you can create a “cover dish” thread so people can see what others are bringing and have an idea of what’s needed instead of getting phone calls asking what they should bring or ending up with 3 people bringing buffalo chicken dip.

We chose to supply the beer, buffalo chicken dip, and cupcakes.

Party Supplies and decorations

Sure you don’t have to have decorations but things like plates, napkins, utensils, and cups might be a necessity. I’m a couponer so coupon for some stuff. BUT I like to give those little extra touches that make the day seem a little more special.  You can see in the picture in the cover dish section. I found super cute football plates, napkins, and cups at Oriental Trading.

I also got some paper football straws at Oriental Trading. The kids loved them.  I think all the kids had them in their drinks.

The thing that got the most comments was the super cute football stadium cupcake stand I got from Oriental Trading. It was only $9.49, sturdy enough to hold 2 dozen cupcakes, and I’ll be able to use it again.  I’ve made cupcakes for events before but they never went as fast at these did. I really think it had something to do with the presentation!

I also got the matching football cupcake wrappers and chocolate footballs from Oriental Trading!  I got a big roll of disposable table cloth that looked like a football field too. It covered 2 – 6 ft tables plus the little 3 x 3 table we had and I still have plenty left for another football themed party or too. It made clean up so much easier too!

So to recap, I got: football field table cloth roll, football field cupcake stand, a big bag of chocolate footballs, football cupcake wrappers, 2 packs of football straws, a pack of 24 football cups, 2 packs of football napkins and 3 packs of football plates for $60!  They have team specific supplies as well if your having a party when your favorite team is playing.

With the cost of the food/drinks we supplied and the party supplies from Oriental Trading we were able to host a great Super Bowl party for 22 people for about $125.  That breaks down to only about $5.69 per person for what came out of our pockets!

Smile Brilliant Professional Teeth Whitening System Review (+ Giveaway)

For the new year I have a number of goals: Lose 10 lbs, organize my home, and do more for myself.  You moms know how it is.  We always put our kids first and often forget about ourselves.  I can’t tell you when the last time I had a manicure was…. Years, possibly a decade.  I’m lucky if I get my hair cut and styled once a year.  I just go to one of those walk-in places because it’s cheaper and I can do it when I find a spare hour (thus the once a year thing).

One thing I’ve been wanting to attend to is my smile.  I’m a coffee drinker and my teeth just aren’t as white as they used to be. I’m not a fan of traditional white strips.  They only whiten your front teeth, they’re kinda awkward to use, and they make my sensitive teeth ache.  I don’t have the time or the money to go get them professionally whitened. Smile Brilliant eliminated all my excuses for not trying to whiten my teeth.

Wow a professional teeth whitening kit I could use at home, on my own time.  Not just any home teeth whitening kit but, one with custom trays that I can use over and over again! Yep, sign me up.

I received my sensitive teeth whitening kit from Smile Brilliant. It comes with everything you need to create your molds including the putty and catalyst, trays, and even a prepaid mailing package.  My kit also contained a storage container for my trays, sensitive teeth gel, whitening, gel, and of course easy to follow instructions.

They send you extra impression material in case you mess up too. I thought for sure I’d need it but I didn’t.  I was so proud of myself.

I received my kit December 14. On December 17 I got my molds made up and on December 19 dropped them off at the post office to go  back to Smile Brilliant so they could make my custom teeth whitening trays.  I was doing all this around the holidays and just didn’t know how long it would take with all the holiday madness. I received my teeth whitening trays back December 31.

I had time to do a teeth whitening session at home before heading out to our family new year’s eve party. I used the sensitivity gel because I had experienced teeth sensitivity with other whitening products. Each syringe is good for about 3 treatments.  The same goes for the whitening syringes.

The desensitizing gel definitely helped. I noticed it had a slightly sweet taste to it. The whitening gel itself had a very subtle sweet flavor.  The gel syringes makes it easy for you to put the right amount in your trays.  My trays fit nicely in my mouth. I felt I could go on about my day while I was whitening. I could do laundry, talk to the kids, cook supper, everything except eat and drink with them in.

Teeth Trays Are In!

Another thing I like about Smile Brilliant teeth whitening system is it doesn’t just whiten your front teeth. The trays cover your molars too.  I took a few pics to compare for progress.

I still have plenty of desensitizing gel and whitening gel left to whiten my teeth whenever they need it.  The process was easy and doesn’t keep me from doing other things. In fact I just ran to a ATM and dropped my oldest son off at his friend’s house while I whitened my teeth!

It Work! Has Greens? Apparently and I’m Trying Them

I’m always looking for ways to help me increase my water intake, add some different flavors to my food plan without getting off track, and if it’s packed full of things that are good for me…of course, that’s even better!

I introduced you to Delayne Thompson of It Works! She is the one that first mentioned “Greens” to me.  Honestly I wasn’t sure what she was talking about. All I knew about It Works! was the wraps and I had never tried them. I was reading on her site about the Greens.  She told me how I could get the 40% discount through It Works! I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pay for another health product that may or may not work for me but after reading about it, especially with the 40% discount, I just had to try it.

I got It Works! Greens berry. They also have a citrus flavor.  I got a 30 day supply container since I wasn’t sure if I would like it.  I got this small container and thought “How can this be a 30 day supply?” But it comes with a tiny scooper that you only need two of in 8 oz of water.  The description on the site doesn’t do it justice for how many awesome ingredients are in the container.

It’s non-GMO, only 10 calories, 250 mg of potassium, no fat, 50 mg of magnesium, then comes the huge list of healthy ingredients.  A lot of herbs, fruits, and vitamins/minerals …all natural flavors.  A few things that really excited me was that…as some of you know…I deal with ulcerative colitis.  I visit my GI doctor regularly and take my meds as prescribed.  I am always reading info about my condition from new studies, to new research and findings, to natural treatments. In a number of articles I read, I’ve seen aloe vera gel, marshmallow root, slippery elm bark, and turmeric root come up. It Works! Greens has all those ingredients. But there are tons more like: broccoli, spirulina (which I had taken previously), alfalfa, blackberry fruit, blueberry fruit, cranberry, and so much more.

I just received it yesterday and tried it for the first time then.  Initially I thought it tasted ok. The color is a darker green color in the water. I just mixed it in a regular glass.  Today I put it in a shaker and measured out exactly 8 oz of water. It tasted way better today. I think I used too much water yesterday to  mix and it didn’t get the full flavor then.  Also I think the shaking helped to mix it more evenly.  Today, I’m rather enjoying my It Works! Green berry. I’m interested to see how this effects my body after 30, 60, and then 90 days.

If you want to give It Works! Greens or any other It Works! products a try, contact Delayne Thompson. Her contact info is in my post here, and definitely read her story.  Tell her you found her from LuvSavingMoney.com

New Years Resolution Goal: Chemical Free Cleaning With e-cloth

As a mom, I’m back and forth about what cleaning products to use. I want something safe to use around my kids..and heck..myself too but I also want it to be effective. When my 3 yr old daughter or 7 yr old son wants to help me clean I want to let them. But I can’t just hand them some bleach and say “here you go, get to it” Nope, I have been handing them a homemade cleaning solution like vinegar and water or an essential oil cleaning blend. Then I discovered e-cloth.

In an effort to both organize my cleaning cupboards and reduce scary, non-people friendly cleaning agents I found e-cloth is the answer to both. With e-cloth you can clean with just the cloth and water. BUT it’s been proven to remove 99% of bacteria on hard surfaces. Since we all know the kitchen is prime territory for germs I asked to try the kitchen cleaning two cloth pack and the stainless steel cloth since almost all my appliances are stainless steel, not to mention the facet.

Besides bearing the seal of the Good Housekeeping Institute UK, e-cloth was also featured in the May issue of Real Simple and has been rated best of the best in 3 separate categories.  Each cloth is good for 300 washes guaranteed. Reuse, yet another green feature of this product.

But the question is, how well do they work.  When  I decided to start cleaning, my little helpers just had to get in on the cleaning action.  I gave each one a cloth, showed them how they work and let them try. They kept asking, “What can we clean next?”

I didn’t know what I should expect with just water and the e-cloth…oh and two little ones cleaning.  They enjoyed themselves cleaning. After they were done I did have to hit a few patches they missed but honest, I think it turned out great. Just as good, if not better than my regular cleaning products.

We used the stainless steel cloth on all the appliances.  I used the kitchen cloth on the cupboards, counter tops, and microwave.  I only felt I  needed to re-wet the cloth once during the cleaning.  I was really impressed with it.

e-cloth can eliminate the need for a cupboard full of cleaning products saving you space, money, and peace of mind since no chemicals are involved. Excellent green cleaning option

So to recap on the benefits of e-cloth:

  1. Chemical-free cleaning
  2. Reusable
  3. Safe to use around children
  4. Works well
  5. Holds Good Housekeeping UK seal
  6. Affordable
  7. Reduces need for space for other cleaning products
  8. Washable
  9. Options for almost all your cleaning areas: Kitchen, Bathroom, Floors, and more

New Year Goals e-cloth can help with:

  • Reduce and Reuse
  • Removing chemicals from the home
  • Reduce clutter in your cleaning cupboard
  • Save money buy cutting cleaning supply costs

Fresh Christmas Trees and More Delivered – Review

Hilltop Christmas Tree Farms has been in business for 20 years. Located in New Brunswick Canada, they produce fragrant Fraser and Balsam fir trees. These are the two most popular types of Christmas trees. They want customers in both Canada and the US to enjoy their trees.

I actually received a fresh wreath from Hilltop Christmas Tree Farms. The wreath I received is a 24 inch Balsam wreath. I was able to choose the bow and went with the Tartan color.

If I’m to be honest I’ve never had a fresh tree or wreath my whole life.  Even now we use an artificial tree and wreaths not made from real trees.  I didn’t know what to expect.  How would they ship it? What would it look like? Will it last from the time I received it until Christmas?

A nice sized box arrived from Hilltop Christmas Tree Farms.

The wreath was perfect inside. There were a few loose needles in the box and the box needed a little fluffing but the wreath was so full and fragrant. I decided to hang it on the door that most people use to enter our home.

It’s a very full wreath and sticks out from the door. Easily noticeable.  The wreath has a nice scent.  The bow is pretty.  I like a BIG bow on my wreaths though.  I’d like to see a little bigger wreath but I do like that fact that you get to choose from several bow options when ordering.
