Funny Face Dried Cranberries Healthier Snack Fun For Kids

I received a Funny Face Prize pack as a thank you for helping to promote. No other compensation has been received.  Any opinions expressed are my own.

As a mom of four I’m always looking for ways to get my kids to eat a healthier snack without them thinking I’m “making” them eat a healthier snack, if you know what I mean.  I’ve tried a variety of healthy snacks with my kids, some they’ve liked, some….not so much.

Funny Face dried cranberries are a fun way to give your kids a sweet tasting treat that you’ll feel good about.  Funny Face cranberries have 50% less sugar compared to traditional sweetened dried cranberries.  They come in fun naturally flavored varieties like Choo Choo Cherry and Rootin’ Tootin’ Raspberry just to name 2.   I love that they now come in portable, individual serving boxes.  They were easy for me to stuff in the diaper bag or my purse when running around with the kids.  The kids enjoyed them even at home.  I took some unsuspecting pictures of them eating their Funny Face dried cranberries.

Eco at Heart Stainless Steel Straws

As a frugal mom, I’m a fan reusable.  It try to buy reusable when I can because it definitely saves money over time. Buying reusable is also better for our earth.  Straws are handy things but they are also not recycled very often.  While one straw might not seem like much think about all the straws used in a day all around you.  That plastic takes a very long time to break down and some even contains chemicals that just aren’t good for us or our earth.

Eco at Heart know this.  With the launch of their first product Eco at Heart stainless steel straws, they’re doing their part in making it easy to be more eco-friendly.

I had about half a dozen reusable glass straws from a couple of different companies.  While very pretty, I always worried about the glass aspect with 4 kids. What if they’d get chipped in storage, we wouldn’t know. One of us could cut out lip? What if one of the kids dropped one and it shattered everywhere and I missed a piece or two? Well my daughter, at 16 months got a hold of a few of them and that’s just what happened.  She smashed them on the floor.  She had found them in one of the drawers, took them out of the box they were in and started playing with them.  I grabbed her up quick and cleaned up the kitchen.  I was still finding itty bitty pieces of glass a couple days later.

I want to be eco-friendly but I also want it to be the best option for my family.  When I had the chance to try these Eco at Heart stainless steel straws, I felt better about these.  The boys thought they were cool looking and were looking for an excuse to use them right away.  They are extra wide – 3/8″ which is a good width for smoothies and shakes.  They come with a brush to help  you clean them easier which I liked.  The quality of the straws is darn near flawless: smooth, solid, perfectly straight, light weight, sturdy, and has the Eco at Heart name lazor etched on the side of each straw.

My boys couldn’t wait to try them.  they were looking for excuses to use them.  They liked the look of the Eco at Heart steel straws better than the glass one we had anyway.  You can actually chill your Eco at Heart straws in the fridge as an added way to help keep your drinks cold too.  These straws are BPA free and dishwasher safe.  They have a 100% satisfaction or your money back guarantee.  They also come with a free ebook with 25 smoothie recipes!

So what did my boys think of them?  They loved them too.  My oldest son said he could be the boy model lol.

Crave Precisio Slant Tip Tweezers Review

I received the below mentioned product as part of the Crave Bloggers program. This post also includes affiliate links.

I’ve used a lot of tweezers in my time: flat tip, slant tip, ones with finger loops, each one seemed to have their pros and cons.  For the most part I like to stick with my slant tip tweezers for more precise and targeted grooming.  Still I’ve used some tweezers that weren’t worth the package they came in.

I had a chance to try Crave Precisio slant tip tweezers as part of the Crave Bloggers program.  When I received it in the mail I have to say, I loved the packaging it came in. Sleek, stylish and cute.

Crave Precisio review

The Crave Precisio slant tip tweezers are made of stainless steel so they are not a flimsy tweezer.  When squeezing the tweezers between my fingers they had a good bounce to them making it easy to release and quickly grab another hair.  I typically use tweezers to clean up my eyebrows and I especially appreciate the bounce. If you’re on the fence about buying these tweezers they also have a no hassle lifetime guarantee.  Nice to see when some companies you have to haggle wit them to take anything back.

I used them to clean up my eye brows a little bit.  I like the shape and feel of the tweezers in my hands.  My only complaint about these tweezers were the stainless steel tips.  They were kind of rough.  It seemed they could have smoothed them out a bit more.  The angle was fine however and the tweezers definitely worked.  The “smoothing” part is more of a visual aspect and completely my opinion.

Galley Essentials Silicone Baking Cups Review

Like many of you reading this, I’m a busy parent.  I’m also on a budget.  I can’t afford to waste money on things that don’t work and I don’t have time to mess with things that don’t work the way they’re supposed to.  If it’s affordable and can make my life simpler and less expensive in some way…that’s how a company can make this working mom happy.  I’ve been venturing into the world of silicone for baking.  I’ve tried some things that made me wish I would have tried them sooner and others that made me wish I would have never tried them at all.

When I was asked to review the Galley Essentials Silicone Baking Cups I decided why not?  The idea appealed to me.  Resusable cups for making cupcakes and muffins.  No paper to throw away, no worries about running out and forgetting to buy more, and they were bright fun colors.  I wondered though with my experience being 50/50 with silicone how this one would go.  I had a pumpkin spice cupcake mix sitting in my cupboard that had been calling to me to make it for some time. I thought, ok mix you’re up.

Blog 001

There was a dozen silicone baking cups that came in a compact container.  I loved the bright colors.  Admittedly when I first pulled them out I was skeptical.  They seemed thin and fairly floppy.  Still I supposed one doesn’t expect silicone to be rigid. They are FDA food certified silicone with a lifetime guarantee so I figured there wasn’t much to lose except maybe some batter or the sides of my cupcakes.

Blog 003

The baking cups were the size of an average paper baking cup.  They recommend placing them on a baking sheet so I did.  I started filling the cups with the cupcake batter and they held up quite well.  The next test was going to be how well the muffins came out of the cups.  After I baked the pumpkin spice muffins I allowed them to sit and cool for a bit. Would you know that every single one of the dozen muffins I made popped right out of those cups? They did!  It didn’t matter if it was the ones that were eaten right away or the ones that didn’t go until 2 days later, they all just popped right out of there.

The orange you see on the cup is the icing.  I’ve never been able to make icing right.  This time my icing turned out like sauce rather than creamy so it was dripping everywhere. Still tasted ok but yea, don’t ask me to make your icing.  I was quite happy with how these little cups worked.  They were super easy to wash too.  I don’t have a dishwasher, I hand wash all my dishes.  Just a few wipes and it was clean.  Love it!

Educational Apps for Your Preschooler from Kids Academy

This post is sponsored post written by me for Kids Academy.  Regardless I only write honest reviews.

All of my kids LOVE electronics.  Xbox, smartphones, tablets, hand held gaming systems, etc. I try to let them indulge in their typical kid interests when I can but I do monitor everything I can. I look up video games to make sure it’s not something inappropriate, I check out review on apps and what it has to offer before I download it for my kids.  I have parental controls set on all the electronic devices I can. My 5 yr old in particular loves his games.  So when I found out about Kids Academy apps and was asked to review them, I said, sure thing.

There are several apps available from Kids Academy geared toward preschool and Kindergarten children.  Right in my youngest son’s age range.  If he’s going to be entertaining himself with an app may as well make it educational right? There are free and paid versions of all the apps.  When referencing the apps, I tried the free version of each.  I’m going to preface these review with this.  The free versions of kids apps are a good way to try the game, check out the graphics, and see what the app has to offer.  In general though, I’m not a fan of free app versions, especially pertaining to kids as there are usually a lot of advertisements and things they can get into that they probably shouldn’t.  Also your limited to how far you can go or to what offerings you can use on the app.  It is the same with each of these apps.

1.  Kids Academy: Kids Puzzles Preschool Math Games

ka app kids puzzle

This is a screen shot from my phone.  You trace the numbers with your finger.  As they go along they get them right they collect fireflies in a jar.   They have an easy to understand narrator to help your child with what to do.  With the free version it only allows you to go up to number 3 until it prompts you to buy the full version.  The graphics, colors, and sounds are engaging.  The only thing I found frustrating with this app is if your child tries to trace too fast or doesn’t get it right on the dotted line it says “oops try again” You also must touch each bold dot when tracing in order for it to accept the tracing or you get the oops message again.  My son became frustrated at time because he did go right to the bold dot all the time.  I tried it myself and it happened to me a few times.   In the free version this is the only activity.

2.  Kids Academy: Preschool and Kindergarten Learning Kids Games

ka preschool app A

For this one, the free version had 3 different learning games.  There is the one I have pictured above with my screen shot. It shows them an objects that starts with that letter, says the name of the object, and tells them the letter it starts with.  They then show them what the letter looks like and your child can try their hand at tracing the letter.  Again, the free version only goes up to the letter C until it prompts you to buy the free version. The other games on this app include the firefly number tracing game like the first app I have listed and another alphabet game where they find object in the picture that start with the letter being prompted.  The graphics are cute, colorful, engaging.  The narrator is easy to understand.

3.  Kids Academy: Learn to Read and Write Kids Puzzles

ka app learn to read

This one again has 3 different activities in the free version.  Mazes, a rhyming word activity, and tracing letters (similar to app #2 listed above).  This one features a cute dog as the main character in the first 2 games listed.  The maze are fairly easy. Your child must touch the dog’s bone and drag it to the end of the maze.  If they lift their finger up at all though it goes back to the beginning of the maze.  The mazes are not long so it’s really not a big set back.  This one I”m going to talk about the second game “Rhyming Words”  I like the idea but I think there are things that can be improved.  With this one there is no narrator.  It simple shows the dog at the beginning of the maze with a though cloud and an object pictured in it.  The object is very small.  There is no audio for you to know what the object is.  The first one was fairly easy.  The was a pen in the thought bubble and you have to drag the dog’s bone to one of 3 objects.  The correct one will be the one that rhymes.  For the pen one the objects were: hen, peas, cow so of course the pen would go to the hen.  The next task showed up and the dog had…what to me looked like a trophy in the though bubble. but the object choices appeared to be train, dog, and bat. So I’m going through my head “maybe it’s not a trophy maybe it’s an award but then that wouldn’t rhyme.  So I started going through the objects, maybe it’s not a train maybe engine.  I couldn’t figure it out so I started dragging the bone to the different objects it connected with the dog.  The it showed “cup” and “Pup” In my opinion, I think the narrator should state what the object is and if your child touches the other objects it should say what they are too.  Rhyming is both visual and auditory learning.

ka app learn to read maze

So to sum up my opinion on these apps.  The visual appearance couldn’t be much better for a kids app. I feel there are some things that could be tweeked as far as audio and sensitivity for toddler and preschool hands.  The free version is good for parents to try with your kids to see if it’s something you want but if you do like it I recommend the paid version. The free version has many ads and pop ups for the paid version which is some what frustrating. If you don’t have parental settings on your phone you may find your child purchasing things you didn’t want to.  I like the fact that the apps are geared to right level of learning for the preschool and kindergarten children.  As with any app or game though, your child would need parental supervision for reasons I just stated.  The links included in the post are for the free version on iTunes.
