Baking Cookies With The Kids and Making It Easier On Myself

I received the below mentioned product in order to complete an honest review. Any opinions expressed are my own.

My kids love to help me bake.  I love baking with them.  I’m not a big fan of the clean up afterward though. I keep a couple mixes in my cupboard at any given time so in a “I’m bored” pinch I can grab a baking mix. It usually works.

I have 3 boys and a toddler girl, baking is something enjoyed by all and they can all have their own jobs to do.  My daughter usually gets to help stir or dump in an ingredient. My 6 year old gets a few stirs and helps with ingredients too. My older boys can help spoon the batter on the cookies sheets, or cupcake tin, or whatever and they get to help break the eggs which they love to do.

Since my older boys weren’t available for this project I let the little ones try their hands at  scooping the cookie dough.  My 6 year old didn’t do too bad. My daughter had the right idea but those little tiny clumps of dough you see on the lower side of the pan, yea that was her scooping and placement method.

Now, I had mentioned about not being a fan of clean up afterward.  You can’t really get away with not cleaning up after baking but anything to make it easier for me is alright in my book.  Do you see those silicone baking mats inside the baking pans?  These have become a staple for me when baking cookies, especially around the holidays when I’m making a lot more cookies.  The cookies don’t stick, the slide right off.  No trying to pry them off the pan with my spatula.  And clean up…yea since the cookies don’t stick you don’t have to scrub your pans as hard. The silicone pads you just wipe with some soap and water and rinse.  No cookies residue there either.  These are made to fit an 18×13 pan which I used here.  I do use them in smaller pans or larger pans. For smaller pans I just have to place it in and put my cookies on. It doesn’t look as neat but it still works.

You can find the same Greenco Non-Stick Silicone mats I used on Amazon. You get a set of 2 for only $9.99! You’ll definitely want to grab these before you start your holiday baking.

Decorating Our New House for Halloween with Oriental Trading

I received the below mentioned products in order to complete an honest review.  Any opinions expressed are my own.

If you noticed that there haven’t been as many posts in the last 2 weeks or so, I have a good reason.  We moved! Yep we just got into our new house last week. We’ve been crazy busy packing and still unpacking. I was without internet for a few days there too. I’m so excited to be able to decorate our new house for the upcoming holidays. I got some really cool Halloween decorations from Oriental Trading. I’ve been busy putting spooky touches on our house.

First of all, zombie gnomes. I mean how I pass up zombie gnomes?!  My family kind of dubbed me a zombie lover.  It all started because I used to watch the Walking Dead a lot and reviewed a zombie shirt.  After that my family thought I was zombie obsessed and starting getting me zombie everything.  I kind of embraced it though. I thought, why not do a zombie theme for our house?

What I love about these zombie gnomes from Oriental Trading is that it was a super easy way to decorate. Just place them in the garden.  I put them in the smaller garden between our front and back door. I’ve gotten a number of comments on them already.

Since I was going with the zombie thing I thought it appropriate to pick up some of these zombie posters from Oriental Trading.  One set includes 6 posters. I put them in the downstairs windows of our house.  It really tied the whole theme together.  I had people asking about the posters in our windows.

Then I found this super cool pictures to hang inside our house.  There are several like this on oriental trading but the one called “Pappy Fungus Holograph” kind of looked zombie like to me.  This one was best shared with a Vine because you have to see it in action:

Lastly I got a “Clawing Zombie Groundbreaker” It’s sensor activated. When someone walks in front of it, it screams and it’s eyes light up red.  It’s battery operated so no worries about finding a plug or wires running all over the place. I put this in the same garden as my zombie gnomes. Everything I listed here, I got for under $75. And I got some really cool decorations that have been getting comments!

Oriental Trading has all kinds of cool things for Halloween to fit any budget. I’d love to get a few different holograp pictures to hand in the house and a few more zombie gnomes to add to my gardens.

Hand Painted Wine Glasses from Valentina Paris

I received the below mentioned product in order to complete an honest review.  Any opinions expressed are my own. This post does contain affiliate links.  Regardless I only post legitimate offers from trusted sites.

I enjoy a glass of wine now and again.  Give me a good Riesling or Pinot Grigio and I’m  happy.  I also appreciate a good wine glass.  Something about an elegant wine glass that just enhances the whole wine tasting experience.

Valentina Paris asked me if I’d like to review their their hand painted wine glasses. They describe them as mouth-blown wine glass hand painted in Paris by Valentina Paris artists. Each glass is unique. Of course I said yes.  How could I pass up a wine glass with a description like that?

I received my wine glasses quickly . They came wrapped with care. When I first pulled them out of the box my first honest reaction was “Holy cow these things are BIG!” I’m not used to a big wine glass. After I got over the initial reaction of how big I thought they were, I examined the glass. I could see the two I had were unique from each other.  Colors in different places, design slightly differed from the other glass.

I know, in the pictures they don’t look big.  I decided to compare them to a bottle of wine and some other wine glasses I had.  They certainly do stand out from the other glasses.  Much prettier than most of my other wine glasses.

Valentina Paris size comparison

Now if you look at the picture in the top right of this collage you can see the size differences.  The Holiday one on the far right is one of those from Arby’s from years ago.  Remember those?  That’s actually the size I normally use.  The one on the far left was from a review I did about 2 years ago.  I thought those ones were big. Then there’s the Valentina Paris glasses.  I took to my private facebook page to poll friends on what they thought about the size of the wine glasses.  Was it just me, were they really big?  Turns out, my wine glass collection is finally complete.  It seems most everyone that chimed in felt that this was the normal size for wine glasses.  I also got a LOT of compliments on them!

  • Jennifer said “I have glasses from Pier 1 that can hold half a bottle lol”
  • April said “They’re gorgeous!”
  • Cathy said “we are big wine drinkers and have several sets of glasses but none that pretty. they look about the size of ours.”
  • Jennifer J said “They are beautiful!”
  • Sara said “So pretty though! & they can totally be used for fancy cocktails too”
  • Trisha said “So pretty!”
  • Karen said “Those are very nice!”

The glasses are light, given the size.  I think they’d really add some ambiance to a dinner date or party.  These glasses were available on Amazon but it looks like they’re out of stock currently

Click n’ Play Knight Castle Play Tent Review

I received the below mentioned product at no cost in order to complete an honest review. Any opinions expressed are my own. This post also contains affiliate links. Regardless I only post legitimate offers from trusted sites.

What kids doesn’t love a playhouse?  The problem with the big plastic or wood playhouses is either you put them outside and can’t use them in bad weather or you put them inside and have them take up a lot of space.

The Click n’ Play Knight Castle Play Tent is up and ready in about 10 minutes, when the kids are done collapse it and put it in this carrying case.  Stick it in a closet, under the bud, or in a toy chest until the next time they’re ready to play.  My 2.5 year old daughter and 6 yr old son are having a blast with this.  It’s perfect size for her.

My 6 year old son is about 4 foot tall. You can see from the picture he’s just as tall as the tent, maybe an inch taller.  He can’t stand up in the tent but he was able to crawl in and sit in the tent comfortably.  They actually wanted to eat their lunch in the tent together so I let them.

The diameter of the tent is 40 inches.  This is not a huge tent so it’s a better choice if you don’t have a lot of space.  I loved watching my kids play and pretend using this tent.  A great piece for imaginative play.

The set up…the set up…If I’m to be honest I thought it would just pop right up when I pulled it out of the carrying case.  This is not the case.  There are about 5 tent poles that you position inside. There are braided nylon pockets that the bottom of the poles sit in, then there is a velcro strap you loop around the poles where the walls meet the roof inside.  Then you tuck the top of the poles into little pockets that meet at the point of the roof. The good news is that the pieces are have three segments that are connected internally by a string so you can take it apart to bend and move where you need but you won’t lose any of the segments.

Now this is not the most rugged of tents.  It was awesome for some indoor play time.  It would not be a tent you’d want to sleep outside in the back yard with.  Also my 2 year old undid the velcro a couple times so a pole pole would come away from the wall a couple times but it’s a quick easy fix.  Even my 6 year old could do it.

It’s only $19.99 on Amazon and free shipping if you have Amazon Prime . For $20 I’d say if you’re thinking about it, go for it.  My kids have been having a blast with it.

Merino Kids Organic Cotton Sleep Sack Review

I received the below mentioned product at no cost in order to complete an honest review.  Any opinions expressed are my own.

I’ve been a fan of sleep sacks for years now.  Ever since I learned about about how much safer using something like a sleep sack is for baby rather than using a blanket, it’s been my go-to way to keep my babies warm at night and during naps.  Even my older kids say “why don’t they make them for us!” lol.

When Merino Kids asked me to try out one of their sleep sacks I was happy too. If I’m to be honest I never heard the brand before and was interested to see what they had to offer.  The first benefits of a Merino Kids sleep sack, that I noticed, is it’s 100% organic and GOTS certified cotton. Yep, NO pesticides or chemicals used to make these sleep sacks.  They are an international award winning textile company from New Zealand.  It was started by a mom who was tired of seeing synthetic materials that are all over the market.

When it arrived in the mail in was packaged in a very nice see-through cotton sack.  I chose the Mulberry design for ages 2-4 years old since my daughter is 2 1/2.

The organic cotton material is sooo soft.  I wanted to climb in it myself but, alas, I’m too big for it.  It’s made thicker then other sleep sack brands I’ve tried. Being that my daughter is only 2.5 years old there is still plenty of room to grow.  We’ll be able to use this sleep sack for a few years. That’s another benefits to the Merino Kids brand sleep sacks.  Yea they’re pricier but you’ll be able to use it for 2 year or more depending on how fast your child grows.

Since she was on the younger end of the product size I was concerned it would be too loose for her and she’d be able to slip right out.  It actually fits very nice in the top part and has plenty of room by her feet to grow and more around in it.

Another feature of the Merino Kids USA sleep sack is that there is a built in area for seat belts.  If they fall asleep and you need to get them into their car seat, no worries.  You don’t have to take the sleep sack off and wake your little one.  You can still use the car seat belts with this on.

The quality of this sleep sack is some of the best I’ve personally seen.  I’ve put it through the wash a few times and it still looks like new.

You can find Merino Kids sleep sack on their website: MerinoKidsUSA.com (definitely check out all the 100% organic product they offer) and Merino Kids on Amazon
