I’ll be the first to admit I’m no pastry chef. I’m someone who watches youtube videos and scans pinterest for super cute ideas and think “Yep that’s really cute but I’ll never be able to do that” or “yea mine would come out looking like the creature from the black lagoon”. So anything that can make help my baking skills is welcome in my home. The kids and the hubby rarely complain when I try to bake but I’d like to put something out that’s…just a little more than my usual.

The first one I tried was the The Mrs. Fields Cutie Cakes pan. One box made A LOT of these cutie cakes. Cutie cakes are like micro mini muffins. As I was taking them out of the pan I had the idea that they would be perfect size for our elf on the shelf or a fairy garden. So I gave our elf Christopher his own cutie cake. My 6 yr old got a kick out of that.
They recommend using a pastry tube to put the batter into the cupcake molds. Probably would have been much easier but I don’t have a functioning one so I spooned it in with a teaspoon. Took a while, I mean there’s 48 of them and I made 2.5 pans full with one box mix. But I was impressed how easily each and every one of them popped out. Not one of them stuck to the pan. They turned out really cute and the kids loved them. Good way to get a taste without all the calories of a full size cupcake too! Now if only someone can make something to make my icing job look better…
Then there was the fill and flip pan. I was most excited to try this one. This one seemed like it could be that step up from my normal baking skills if it worked. I made a yellow cake and decided to fill it with peach pie filling. I topped it with a whipped cream frosting to make a, sort of, peaches and cream type of flavor mixture. I know it sounds dramatic to say I’m in love with a baking pan but this is probably the closest I’ve ever come to exclaiming “I love this!” whilst baking.
The instructions did say to grease and flour the pan which I did. Again the cakes just popped right out of the pan, no sticking.
