How Cars.com Helped Me Save Money When I Bought My Acadia

After baby number 4 we realized that my 2006 Pacifica, while a good vehicle, wasn’t really meant for a family of 6. Sure it fit all 6 of us in but little else. There was very little trunk space when all the seats were up. That meant when we went on a family trip we might be able to take the compact stroller forget about the jogging stroller. When we went to Ocean City the kids had to have their bags on the floor by their feet because there wasn’t enough trunk space. So I researched vehicles with the help of Cars.com and had it narrowed down to a GMC Acadia, Honda Pilot, or Chevy Traverse. I was able to save cars to favorites so I could show my husband or quickly compare them.

With Cars.com I downloaded the app and checked the website a couple times a week. We wanted less than 30K miles on the vehicle. It had to fall within a specific price range. Cars.com helped me decide what cars we could afford realistically, and gave me a good idea of what dealerships had the vehicles in our price range in our area. I was able to search by make, model, mileage, price range, area radius, and more.

Then my Pacifica started having issue after issue. It was in the shop at least once a month for a new problem. That’s when we decided it was time to jump on the vehicle. I had it narrowed down to a GMC Acadia at a local dealership or a Honda Pilot at a dealership about 30 miles away. The Honda Pilot had less milage, about $2k less, but was a year older. The GMC Acadia had everything we wanted except that the price wasn’t quite what we wanted.

They tried to give us a hard time about the price. I pulled up the Honda Pilot on my cars.com app and said to my husband, that’s ok honey this Pilot is in our price range why don’t we go check that one out and decide. Then they were able to drop the price after I showed the car salesman. So thanks to Cars.com I ended up getting the vehicle local for a price that fit into our budget.

How to Make a Lighted Container Fairy Garden

I’ve always wanted to make a fairy garden. I’ve searched online and looked at all the super cute fairy garden supplies. Much of it is so expensive for how tiny it is. I was so excited to see Dollar Tree had fairy garden supplies. It was a game changer for us because it meant that starting a fairy garden was going to be easy and affordable. Since it’s still pretty cold here in Pennsylvania we decided to do a container fairy garden.

What’s fun about fairy gardens is there’s no one way to make them. You can make it completely your own. It’s a fun project to do with kids. Here I show you how to make a lighted container fairy garden with materials from DollarTree.com

MATERIALS:

Container of your choice medium flower pots or short squat vases work well
Fairy garden buildings and/or fairies
Soil
River pebbles, accent gems, aquarium rocks in neutral colors
Floral moss and floral grass
real or artificial flowers
real or artificial succulent plants

Optional items:

Fairy lights
glitter

I was able to get all the supplies I needed from DollarTree.com or my local Dollar Tree store.

First fill your container with soil. I was able to find soil at my local Dollar Tree store. Two bags were plenty to fill up my medium size flower pot I chose. You can do these as small or large as you like.

Next, decide how you want to arrange your fairy garden. You can set your fairy building, fairies, and flowers around before you start adding texture and planting things into the soil. You can plant real plants or you can use artificial plants for a year round fairy garden. Since it’s pretty cold here in PA yet, we opted for artificial plants.

We started by putting our fairy building we got from DollarTree.com on first then building and decorating around it. We decided to plant the artificial succulents into the soil so they weren’t bigger than the buildings. If you’re using real plants you’ll do the same, of course. We already had an idea of what we wanted to do. We added river pebbles to add texture. We used blue accent gems that we bought on DollarTree.com to make a little pond in our container fairy garden. Floral moss added some sense of whimsy while artificial flowers gave our garden more depth.

We had bought some cute battery powered dragonfly lights at our local Dollar Tree that we wanted to add to our container fairy garden. They only had a few lights on them and were light weight so they worked well with our container garden. We sort of weaved them through the artificial flowers we placed in the pot.

We had so much fun with this project. It’s a fun family project. Would also be a fun playdate or party project. You can buy bulk fairy garden supplies at DollarTree.com

You can really add your own touches by adding more or less scenery items. A pinch of glitter, real flowers, or other decorations.
