“911. What’s your emergency?”
“Please. Tell them to hurry. You have to help me. There is a man trying to break into my office. He’s
killed someone and now he’s coming for me. Oh, God you have to hurry. He’s right outside. I’m
trapped.”
“A disturbance has already been reported for your location. Emergency personnel are enroute. Tell me
your name.”
“Catryna Logan, I already called you.”
“I’m right here with you. Keep talking.” Wham!
“He’s kicking in the door. Please tell them to hurry. I can’t…” I watched in horror as the door
splintered and busted open with the force of his weight. “Too late. He’s already here.” My eyes locked on
his and I dropped the receiver. His eyes are elongated slits, just like a snake. The crazy guy hadn’t been
lying. Serpent demons were here and this one had every intention of killing me.
“Give me the sword, Priestess. I will grant you a quick death this time.”
“This time?” If the story about the demons was true, then it must all be true. How do I summon this
great protector?
There was nowhere left to run. No other choice. I moved to the other side of the desk, pulled away the
velvet, and hoping the sword was the key, unsheathed the katana. Grasping the hilt firmly in both hands, I
readied myself to fight for my life. I might fail, but I would go down fighting and clawing all the way.
And then I felt it.
A jolt of electricity raced through my arms, warm and powerful as it kissed along my skin. At that
touch, I remembered.
Mine. But where is the Doragon’nokiba, the Dragon’s Fang? Somehow, I knew I needed its twin to
win the battle. With that memory, a deep ache settled around my heart.
Kairyuu.
I must be possessed. It’s the only logical explanation. These memories can’t be mine.
Except I had a memory of deep purple eyes, so dark they were almost black, framed with inky lashes.
A memory of a man who couldn’t possibly exist. Shouldn’t exist. Overwhelmed, I whispered his name.
“Kairyuu.”
The demon moved swiftly, crossing the distance of the room in seconds. Apparently, he didn’t like my
touching the sword.
“No! You witch! You invoked the spell,” he bellowed.
His name is the spell?
“Ryuu no tsume come to me,” The demon hissed his demand, and I realized he had a forked tongue.
I smiled. “Oh I don’t think so. You can call the sword by its true name, but the Dragon’s Claw obeys
me now.”
The demon lunged for the blade determined to take the sword from me any way he could, but it
repelled him, slamming him against the wall. “I’ll kill you and take it. Just like the last time.” He pointed
his gun at me and fired.
Bright pink light erupted from the blade, forming a bubble around the desk and shielding me. The bullet
stopped in mid-air before landing on the floor and rolling away. I was surrounded in light, swathed in the
sword’s power. Firm hands gripped my shoulders pulling me backward out of harm’s way and against a
hard chest. Glancing down, I noted my rescuer had black nails, just a little longer than my manicure but
sharper. Black claws? I was overwhelmed with the scent of cherry blossoms and leather. That’s an odd
combination and yet, it’s familiar. My rescuer moved to stand in front of me, blocking my view of snake
guy with broad shoulders divided by a trail of thick black and purple streaked hair.
“You will not harm her, snake.” Lifting his own blade, the stranger attacked, drawing a pattern in the
air with the blade, then shooting bolts of fire from the sword. Okay, so maybe it’s a magic sword? The
snake demon fell into a charred pile of ash.
“Are you well, my queen?”
Beautiful.
That word shouldn’t describe a man, but he was. Standing at five foot eight in my bare feet, I was at
least a foot shorter. Broad shouldered, graceful, black hair with ripples of deep royal purple shifting
through it fell straight to his waist unbound. His eyes were engaging.
Human men don’t have purple eyes or pointed ears and certainly not the hint of fangs that glinted
when he smiled at me.
Kairyuu, Lord of the Dragon demon clan, was magnificent and somewhere in the depths of my

memories, whether they were mine or not, I knew he loved me, or rather he loved a priestess everyone
assumed was me. For a moment, I wished it were true.

It comes rushing by us in the blink of an eye. An awe-inspiring wall, a series of
watchtowers that glimmer with white-hot light, an expansive gate that groans and slides inward
as the train comes barreling toward it—we witness the tracks as they begin to transition from the
cold, merciless desert into the urban dwelling of the high-class world, which is layered with
concrete, then watch as buildings shoot into the sky beside us. Glass windows adorn their
surfaces—some winking light, others not. Most are black in color, but others are reminiscent of
the buildings back home: white and sandstone-colored to reflect on a time that surely came
before.
“I can’t believe this,” I say as we continue to advance into the city, which glimmers like
stars in the night sky. “This whole place is just sitting out here, in the middle of the desert.”
“It’s amazing,” Ceyonne says.
We pass fountains that spout fresh water, ponds that hold real, living and ornate fish
within their depths, and witness buildings as they flash with untold colors, beckoning the
populace walking about at this early hour of the night inside with promises of the treasures
within.
I can’t believe what I’m seeing.
This place—it is Heaven: Utopia founded on the soiled grounds of our unfortunate world.
There is little time for us to dwell upon the matters at hand, or even to think of what is
going to be happening, as soon, there is a knock at the door, and Mother Terra is beckoning us
into the hall.
The brakes come on, the train slows down, the vehicle rolls under an underpass and then
comes to a halt before a series of sweeping glass windows. Before them stands a multitude of
people, both men and women, holding small objects with large lenses in their hands, which flash
in quick, erratic and unexpected succession.
“Are those,” Ceyonne asks.
“The photojournalists?” Mother Terra asks. “Yes, which is why you need to make sure
your hoods are down—especially you, Kelendra.”
I pull my hood further down my temple and nod to the Gentlewoman as she once again
gestures us out of the cabin.
Ceyonne goes first, and I follow shortly thereafter, falling into line. At first I struggle to
count how many others there are, but soon realize that I am struggling because I cannot
comprehend the few.
Only seven other girls were selected besides me and Ceyonne? How is that even
possible?
I open my mouth to ask Mother Terra why this is, but am stopped when the
Gentlewoman clears her throat at the front of the line and says, “Listen up, girls. It is imperative
that you follow my instructions at all times, especially now that we have arrived within the city.
“Now, with that being said, there are a few ground rules I’d like to go over.
“Number one is: don’t talk to the photojournalists. They will shout things at you, ask you
to remove your robes, ask you to show your faces, but under no circumstance are you to do this.
We don’t want the public misinterpreting our actions.
“Number two: follow me at all times. Do not stray from the group. It is easy to get lost
within the city, especially when there are multitudes of people about.
“And finally, number three: only speak to those who hold a title of authority. Do not tell
them your name, your age, where you have come from, or what has happened to you in your
former life. You are starting fresh, ladies, and will be expected to act as though you have been

reborn. Do you understand?”
“Yes ma’am,” we all say.
“Good,” Mother Terra replies. “Now come. It is time for us to go to the Spire.”
Mother Terra nods at Mother Chun and Mother Merissa before reaching forward and
pressing a button to open the train’s exit doorway.
We are immediately assaulted by flashing lights. Too numerable to comprehend, and
seemingly as bright as the sun, they flash like stars in the twilight sky and cause me to lose my
momentum for a brief moment before I step out of the train.
“Hey Beauties!” a man calls. “Tell us your names!”
“Where are you from?” another woman asks.
“Take off your hoods!” a third photographer cries.
“Don’t listen to them,” Mother Terra states. “Keep going.”
“Follow us,” Mother Chun says, her bronze skin shimmering as her cat-like eyes settle
upon us.
We, the Beautiful Ones, nod, and begin to march as though we are dying men, armed
with knives and swords and guns. While not heading to a battle in the traditional sense, we have
a fight of our own to endure, especially now that we have arrived within the Glittering City. We
are warriors—pulled from the depths of poverty and lifted by the grace of beauty—and though I
have never once felt as though I have been persecuted for my appearance, I now realize that I
could easily be seen that way now.
Remember, my mother used to say. People won’t want to hurt you unless you give them a
reason to. Be kind, be caring, but most of all, be compassionate.

The Best Sites to Find Back To School Clothes Deals

It’s about that time for back to school clothes shopping. With 4 kids, my budget for back to school shopping could easily get out of hand if I wasn’t a deal hunter. I thought I’d share the best places online to find back to school clothes deals with you. Places to find name brand clothes without paying name brand prices.

Athletic Wear Deals

My oldest son lives in athletic shorts while my middle son lives in athletic shorts and athletic pants. They love their Nike, Under Armour, Reebok, ADIDAS, and other brands. These brands can be expensive and it’s sometimes hard to find a real deal but this is stuffed full of bargains.

Proozy offers all the name brands I offered and many more. You’ll also find Northface, Columbia, Puma, Oakley, Birkenstock and lots more. This is my go-to site for athletic wear for my family. Amazing deals. I just got a 4 pack of Reebok boxer briefs for both my older boys for only $12.99 each and free shipping with code PZYSHIP which expires 8/7/19.

New to You

There is nothing wrong with gently used clothes. I buy them often, especially for myself. I’ve bought a few pair of shorts, hoodies, and even shoes from this next site. They have every day deals as low as $3 and often have coupon codes available to save even more! They even have some school uniforms available.

Schoola.com

Schoola is an online consignment store offering clothes for kids, women, men, and more. If you’ve never shopped Schoola before, you can save 50% off your first order with code: FIRST50OFF this code does not have an expiration date.

When Name Brand Doesn’t Matter

There are plenty of clothing companies out there that aren’t name brand but still have good quality clothes. Did you know that Amazon has their own line of clothing called Amazon Essentials. You can find Amazon Essentials for boys and Amazon Essentials for girls. This includes school uniforms!

There’s also Prime Wardrobe which has a special section for back to school. You’ll be sent a box of clothes in the size and gender you choose. Keep only what you like, send the rest back.

Don’t forget that qualifying college/university students can get Amazon Prime Student for 50% off for 6 months!

The Deal Treasure Hunt

There are several sites that offer exciting deals that are every changing. Maybe they have a deal up for Under Armour but it will only last for 3 days, maybe they have a deal up Hush Puppy shoes but it ends tonight. These type of sites are typically referred to as daily deal sites.

One of my fave daily deal sites is Zulily. It’s worth checking out at least a few days a week. Right now they have deals on school uniforms, graphic shirts, back to school workbooks, and more. But the deals won’t last long.

Ebay actually has a Daily Deals section which has become one of my new favorite places to shop. I actually got my youngest son an ADIDAS shirt and hoodie that he loves. Often times they’re deals direct from the manufacturer and offer free shipping. Plus you can use PayPal to check out.

Make Your Own Deals

Cash back sites are competing for your business. While one site might offer more cash back at JC Penney, and other site might offer more cash back at Target. Where you choose to shop there’s a good chance there’s a site offering cash back for you. Stack cash back offers with coupon codes and that can lead to big savings!

Here are my fave cash back sites (they’re all free).

  • TopCashBack – Consistently high cash back lots of choices for payout options
  • Rakuten – formerly Ebates, lists coupon codes with cash back pays every 4 months if you have at least $5 in your account
  • BeFrugal – Deal posts and high cash back rates
  • Giving Assistant – allows you to donate some of your cash back to your favorite charity if you wish.

This post does contain affiliate links. I will get a small commission from sales made through my links at no extra cost to you. Any opinions expressed are my own.

Oh The Places You’ll Go Giveaway Hop: $15 Amazon Gift Card

When do your kids or grandkids start back to school? Mine go back the end of the month. I’ve been finding great deals this year for back to school. In fact, I’m almost done back to school shopping.

Inevitably there will be something I forgot. Maybe I didn’t buy enough book covers, maybe their teacher this year requires a certain size binder so I’ll have to run out and get that.

So in honor of those last minute things I’m giving one lucky winner a $15 Amazon gift card.

Also I’ve been writing articles for car dealerships and just wrote one to remind PA drivers of bus laws. Check it out.

Bachelor in the Boondocks Book Tour & Giveaway

Bachelor in the Boondocks by River Ames Genre: Clean Contemporary Romance

Jared Sherman has been coerced into spending six months of his life in the small Missouri town of Green River. His uncle wants to merge their businesses, but before the older man will talk business, he’s made it a pre-condition of the agreement that his nephew move to Green River. Jared, a big city sophisticate, is having trouble wrapping his mind around country living. He feels as if he’s traded in his life in the fast line for a sojourn straight out of a rerun of the “Andy Griffith” show. Except, Jared doesn’t remember an episode that had Sheriff Andy standing in the buff with only a flimsy pair of frilly curtains preserving what’s left of his dignity while being surrounded by the broken glass of his bedroom window. Cue Amelia Greene. “Call 911, and I’ll break your arm.” She can understand him not wanting anyone else to see him in this bizarre situation, but his tone is unacceptable. Being the good neighbor that she is, and because it was her younger brother whose baseball smashed through Jared’s window, Amelia helps Jared free himself from the shards of glass essentially holding him hostage. Jared Sherman is a man who’s counting the hours until he can escape the confines of country living. Another countdown is underway, however. He’s counting down the next time he can steal another sweet kiss from a woman who’s so devious he can’t figure out how she manages to be so darned seductive. Maybe by wearing her flaming hair in a bun, going about in long-sleeve blouses, and forgoing expensive perfumes, she’s discovered a sure-fired way to entice even the most dyed-in-the-wool bachelor. Who would have ever thought the natural look could inflame a man’s desires? Good grief, she was literally the girl next door. But, he was a man who had no intention of living in the boondocks, minus the docks. Goodreads * Amazon

River Ames spent the first eighteen years of her life in Southern California. Here is a partial list of some of the cities in which she lived: Pasadena, South Pasadena, Duarte, El Monte, Arcadia La Puente, Lomita, West Covina, Pacifica, Santa Monica, Palmdale, and Hacienda Heights. In some of those cities, she lived at six different addresses. In the city of La Puente, River’s family lived in four different houses on the same street. The non-glamorous reason for all the moves was habitual eviction necessitated for non-payment of rent. It was an interesting way to grow up. River attended twenty-six different elementary schools, two different junior high schools and four different high schools. In one elementary school, she was a student for only three days. Perhaps, because she was so frequently identified as the “new girl,” the pattern of River being an observer instead of a participant in the interactions going on around her seemed a logical fit for her personality. When she was thirteen, River read “Gone with the Wind.” She skipped three days of school in order to finish the book in one sitting. Disappointed in Rhett for “not giving a damn,” River wrote her own sequel–in long hand, on three-hole punch, notebook paper. The opening line? “Tomorrow dawned bright and fair.” In less than fifty pages, Scarlett had been transformed into Jane Eyre and Rhett had fallen in love with her all over again. After Southern California, River has spent the next part of her life living in the semi-rural town of Idaho Falls, Idaho. She is a graduate of Idaho State University, majoring in Health Education Sciences and Addiction Counseling. She’s worked the past ten years at a Behavioral Health Center where she assisted children, teenagers, and adults committed in a 24/7 secured facility because of mental health challenges they are experiencing. River’s books celebrate the good-natured humor that lays at the heart of most of our human predicaments. The conflicts are significant, yet it is her characters and their quirky (yet somehow universally relatable) thoughts, words, and choices that reflect a light-hearted peek into a world we wish was real. The amazing thing is that these worlds are real to readers for the time they visit there. Readers have said: “In a River Ames book, one minute I’m laughing out loud, and the next I have a lump in my throat.” River is currently readying a historical novel, “Gideon’s Justice.” This three-part novel is Book I in a three volume western series set in the Colorado Territory. “In the big city, that’s how we say goodnight,’’ Jared whispered, releasing her.
“You don’t say,” Amelia responded tartly.
His eyes narrowed. “You don’t give an inch, do you? I feel as though I’m waging a military campaign
against you.”
“Don’t be expecting a white flag of surrender any time soon.”
“The thought never crossed my mind. But you should know, I do take prisoners.” He brushed his
knuckles against her cheek. “Will you invite me over for dinner tomorrow night?”
“I’d have to be crazy to invite the enemy into my camp, wouldn’t I?”
“Live dangerously,” he said, turning to leave.
Madness—wild and reckless—seized her… “Wait!”
Her wild, reckless, and impetuous kiss cut off his start of surprise.
Her arms twined about his neck. His stronger ones pulled her even closer.
For a few mindless moments, she experienced the thrill of both conquest and surrender.
“That is how we say good-night in the country, Jared.”
