Smelly Washer How-to and Review – Luv Saving Money

Smelly Washer How-to and Review

Please Share

I have an Amana front loading he washing machine.  It was our wedding/housewarming gift from my in laws when hubby and I got married 6.5 years ago.  The dryer kicked the bucket but the washer is still going.  I’ve not had any issues with my washer. I would occasional notice a bit of a mildew smell but it seemed to subside after the next wash. Apparently though, it’s a big issue.  Big enough that there is a fairly big lawsuit again at least one certain big front loading washer brand because moisture become trapped in the machine and creates a “mildew smell”.  You can do a search online about the lawsuit or you can read the article I found on Forbes Magazine Here.  The gist of it, the brand in question doesn’t think it’s an issue and the lawsuit isn’t moving quite the way some consumers would want.  So, what do you do?  Are you stuck with a smelly washer?

The answer to your problem also has a solution by the same name, Smelly Washer Cleaner.  Smelly Washer Cleaner is safe for both he and regular clothes washers AND dishwashers.  How-to use it is pretty easy.

smelly washer

1.  add one cap full (just the twist off cap it comes with) to your empty washer (either where you would normally put your detergent or you can put it directly into your washer)

2.  If you have a soak setting on your washer, use that.  If not, run your washer on the hot setting and complete the cycle.  For stronger odors, pause the cycle and allow it to soak.

3.  If you still have issues, use a cap full with a load of white laundry.  The bulk of the laundry will raise the water level to get it to reach in splash areas.

I did one load of laundry before using the smelly washer cleaner.  Of the things I washed was  one sock from a set of my son’s football socks.  I then did another load of laundry after using Smelly Washer Cleaner to see if it made any difference with the clothes.  In that load I washed my other son’s other sock from the pair I mentioned.  Here is my how-to video and the results of the test.
