Kids are out of school for summer break.  Keeping them entertained, active, and eating right over the summer is my main priority as mom.  Some of our favorite summer activities is heading to the local park for hours of playground fun and nature walks.  We also love heading to the local pool.  Car trips become a little more frequent over the summer too.  I try to pack some healthy snacks for our day outings but finding healthy snacks everyone loves is hard. One will only eat certain veggies and by a few weeks into summer they bored with pbj sandwiches and fresh fruits.  So I start to get creative.  This year however, I found out about Grandma Hoerner’s Big Slice Pouches.

Grandma Hoeners Big Slice

Let me tell you a little about these flavorful pouches.  Grandma Hoerner’s starts with big apple slices cooked in their own juices and sealed in portable pouches.  That sounds yummy enough but they are also available in 16 different flavors. When I say flavors, I mean flavors. Nothing boring here. How about trying  the energy pouch with kettle cooked apples in raspberry hibiscus & green tea extract.  Natural hibiscus flavor, only 90 calories, non-gmo, and naturally gluten and fat free.  This one was one of my fave flavors but there were many tasty ones.  How about Boysenberry Chocolate or Pineapple Passionfruit & fiber. There are plenty of intriguing flavors.  Including flavors to get kids interested like cherry vanilla and Cinnamon French Toast.

When you buy Grandma Hoerner’s Big Slice pouches a portion of the purchase is donated to SPARKLE charity blessing women in need. My boys and my daughter all tried out these pouches.  My 10 yr old went straight for the Cinnamon French Toast flavor.

Another thing I like about these pouches is that the apples they use are from right here in the USA. Always happy to see an American company using American resources.  Big Slice pouches initially launched in 250 Super Target locations in January.  In February they started rolling out to almost all Target stores.  Each pouch is 100 calories or less.  I couldn’t get over the amount of flavor in these pouches.  Depending on the flavor of the pouch you got sweet, you got tart, you got herbal, and of course that yummy baked apple flavor and consistency.  Just look at these pouches packed with goodness!

Each pouch is one serving. I found them to be very filling.  Made with real ingredients, not imitations.   This was a great snack for my boys who would graze all day long if I let them.  The pouches are easy to tear open.  They don’t need refrigerated. Just throw a few in your your purse, backpack, or picnic basket a long with a few forks and you have a healthy, delicious, portable snack.  Check out more about Grandma Hoerner’s Big Slice pouches here: bigsliceapples.com and see all the flavors available.  Then head to you local Target and stock up for the summer.  You can also order online on Grandma Hoerner’s Website: grandmahoerners.com

  8. These look delicious! My 5 little ones and I love spending hours at the park too, and I’m always on the look out for quick, easy and healthy snacks for us to take with us. I saw on their website that they also come in a “shareable jar”. I wonder if those are also available at Target. I will definitely be picking this up on my next trip.

  9. I have heard of this Grandma Hoerner’s Big Slice and thought that this might be a snack my son would enjoy. He does not like many fruits but this does seem tasty and convenient. I have seen them in Target also.

  10. I love that they are healthy snacks you can take on the go. as a mom with 2 kids I always seem to be busy on the go and miss meals.

  13. These look absolutely delicious! What a GREAT idea! And such a healthy snack! I will be looking for these in my local grocery stores for SURE!

  14. The Cherry Vanilla sure looks good. What an easy way to put apples in your kids lunch and not have them come back un-eaten!! 😉

  15. Reading your review made me hungry to try these. I too take my kids on nature walks and I think these would be perfect. Even for a day at the beach. I homeschool my kids so they are always home and eating the same old “boring” as they would say snacks I think Grandma Hoerner’s Big Slice Pouches is exactly what we need.

  16. looks delicious! i love that they are all natural and they look like they have that homemade touch

  17. This sounds like a yummy and interesting snack! I would never have thought you could have cooked apple in a pouch. Makes sense, though! The flavors sounds good, too.

  24. These look sooo good! I love that that they come in so many delicious flavors and are also made in the usa! We are big apple and fruit eaters in our home, so this would be a great snack for the entire family. It’s also great that I can just throw them in my purse because I am always in a hurry:)

  25. I saw these at Target recently and was wondering what they were like, thanks for the review. They look great, but they are a little more expensive than other fruity snacks.

  26. Wow I am very surprised that I have never heard of these before! They look and sound delicious! My kids love the apple sauce pouches, but get bored with them. I love that these are whole slices, and the amount of different flavors is amazing! I can’t wait to try them!

  29. I love that they donate to SPARKLE! That alone makes me more apt to buy from their company instead of somebody else’s. 🙂

  30. Oh, my goodness! I think the pineapple & passionfruit would be delicious! That’s the one I would try first!

  31. Love these. I keep a stash of the raspberry / hibiscus / green coffee extract apples in my desk at work – they’re the PERFECT afternoon (or sometimes morning) snack, with the natural long-lasting energy and vitamins of an apple, but with a little caffeine boost to get you going again, and a little extra deliciousness! Keep meaning to try the other flavors, but this ones so good I just keep buying a bunch of it instead of branching out!

  32. At almost two years old, my son has gotten very picky with food. But one thing hasn’t changed and that’s his love of fruit. My son would LOVE these! I love how there are different flavors, it’s kettle cooked and not too many calories.

  33. I spend alot of time with my grandchildren in the summertime and I am always looking for treats and snacks to take on outings to the park and the pool. Grandma Hoerner’s sound perfect and easy!

  34. Wow these look so good! I love cooked apples and to have them ready to go would be super handy!
