Review: Color My World Globe from Educational Toy Planet

I received a 13 cm (5″) Color My World Globe to review from Educational Toys Planet.

The 5 ” Coloring Globe is recommended for ages 8+.  This smaller globe would be just the right size to sit on your child’s desk at home.  I think this would make the geography lessons just a little more fun.  The Color My World Globe comes with 4 dry erase markers to color or mark countries, continents, ocean, etc.

My 7 year old seemed to be the one that was the most curious about this review item.  He asked if he could be the one to try it out.  I opened it up and explained the idea of it.  The first thing my 7 yr old said was “What color should I make the oceans?”  I told him it was up to him.  Whatever color he wanted.  I suggested blue but he said “Mom it doesn’t come with blue!”  I was very surprised to see that a “color my world globe” did not come with a blue marker since most of the world is ocean.  It didn’t seem to bother my son much though.  He simply picked up the purple marker and went to town.

The globe uses dry erase markers and is easily wiped off with the erasers at the tip of each marker cap or a tissue.  I think this would be a fun educational tool to use for one of my kids’ geography study session.  I’m thinking I could have them name continents and then color in each one a little differently.  I took the globe and showed my 2 oldest sons where about we lived in the world and marked it with an “X” with one of the markers.  I showed them where in relation it was to Canada, Mexico, and Asia.

This would also be great for studying ocean names.  I think I would have them write in with the markers the names of the oceans.  There could probably be at least a dozen or more ideas as far as studying for geography.  Aside from that, my son had an enjoyable time just coloring in the Color My World 5″ globe.  At a sale price of $14.97 this would be an affordable learning tool.  A great addition to the materials for a home schooling mom as well.

It’s made of very sturdy material. I believe this will survive a few falls from the table or being dragged around by my toddler.

Aside from this globe there is another Color My World globe that is slightly larger at 11″ and many more Geography learning toy in the Geography for Kids toy section of Educational Toys Planet

Review: Valentine Smiley Cookies

I was lucky enough to grow up with an Eat n’ Park restaurant only about a 5 minute drive away from my house.
I’m born and raised in Pennsylvania.  Eat n’ Park restaurants originated as one restaurant in Pittsburgh, PA.  Now you can find them all over PA and several other states.  Opened 24 hours a day, it was great to go for breakfast early for their great buffet.  As a teenage we used to love to go late at night.

One thing that stands out is the bakery that makes fresh baked items all the time.  You are greeted with the fresh frosted faces of the Smiley Cookies.  Even the kids’ meals come with a Smiley Cookie. The kids always wanted to pick what color Smiley Cookie they wanted.

I have relatives that have moved out of state.  When I saw the our sweet little Smiley Cookies now have their own website and can be shipped all over the US, I thought about sending some to my extended family.

Smiley Cookies come in several shapes and colors.  I got to review the Valentine Smiley Cookies. These Valentines Day Cookies would be a cute and sweet treat to send off to your grandkids, a friend in need of some cheer, or just because.

I say review, it’s more like eat them again and remind myself why I crave them sometimes.  They are simply frosted heart cookies.  Just sugar cookies with icing and a smile.  There’s just something about them that are so tasty.  Just the right amount of icing, a nice sized cookie, baked to perfection, that cute smiled just looking at you as if to say “oh yea, you’re going to enjoy me!”

The kids enjoyed them too.

These generous sized cookies are so cute and so tasty.  Try them once and you’ll understand where I’m coming from on these. They also have Steelers Smiley Cookies for all your Pittsburgh fans.  Send a nice Cookie Gift Basket out for a birthday or congratulatory gift.

Kidswitch Review and #giveaway 1/17 US–CLOSED

RANDOM.ORG DREW NUMBER 37, KIM.  WINNER HAS BEEN EMAILED AND HAS 48 HRS TO RESPOND.

I had the opportunity to review Kidswitch. In short, Kidswitch is a light switch extender to help your little one to be able to turn light off an on. Especially on those harder to reach light switches.

KidSwitch was easy to install and came with the pieces you needed.  I put one at the bottom of my stairs in the kitchen.  My 18 month old already loves to help turn off the lights when we leave a room.  I hold him up and he’ll flick he switch.  I give him positive reinforcement.  He is so proud that he did that.  He likes to go upstairs and explore with his big brothers but sometimes he’ll try to go up the steps in the dark.  I’m trying to show him how to use the kids switch. He’s starting to grasp the idea.

It’s really very easy to use.  Your child can just pull/slide it up and down and it works the light switch.  As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, I see value in this product for those in wheelchairs that have difficulty reaching the light switches in their house as well.

The KidSwitch glows in the dark too.  Great for your child’s bedroom or in the bathroom for those bathroom trips in the middle of the night.

Some benefits of the KidSwitch include:

1. Encouraging energy saving tasks for your child/grandchild

2. Giving your child/grandchild a sense of independence and accomplishment

3.  Easy to install

4.  Glows in the dark to locate the light switch at night

5.  Safer for your child since kids have a tendency to grab whatever is near to stand on to complete a task that’s too high.

KidSwitch works with toggle switches or there is also Kidswitch Decora that works with the Decora switches.

KidSwitch has received the seal of excellence from Creative Child Magazine for 2010

You can purchase KidSwitch directly from their website: www.kidswitchshop.com

Homeopathic Value Pack review and #giveaway 1/15 US—CLOSED

Random.org drew number 65 monica. winner has been emailed and has 48 hrs to respond to winning email or a new winner will be chosen. Thanks to everyone who entered.

I had a cold for the whole month of December. Yes, really. It actually started just after Thanksgiving.  It started with a little bit of stuffy nose and sneezing.  Then a cough joined the symptoms.  My congestion got so bad I couldn’t smell or taste anything for about 3 weeks.  Can be good or bad depending on which way you look at it over the holidays.  My ears got a little blocked too from the congestion.  No fever though, never a fever.

When I had the opportunity to review the Homeopathic Value Pack from the Boiron company I thought, “wow, how ironic that I was offered to review this product at this time”.

I received the pack which included Coldcalm, Chestal Honey, and Oscillococcinum for Flu-like symptoms.

As soon as I got it I tried the Coldcalm. I was so tired of being sick.  I wanted to try anything to get rid of this annoying cold.  The coldcalm tabs melt in your mouth. There are 60 tabs in the box.  You’re supposed to take 2 every 15 min for two hours then 2 every hour until symptoms have been relieved.  For ages 3yr to adult.  All of these homeopathic medicines tell you you should take it at the first signs of cold or flu symptoms.  I did not.  I had already had mine for about 3 weeks when I received my review pack.

I followed the directions but after taking them as directed doing several every hour doses after the every 15 min doses, I only noticed minimal improvement.  BUT I have to tell you that after going on 5 wks of this persistent cold and cough I finally went to the doctors (I know us mother’s take care of our kids but not ourselves sometimes).  Turns out I had bronchitis.  It appears that I had let me cold go too long before even receiving this product and had developed the bronchitis.  The package tells you that if symptoms persist after 7 days or sore throat for more than 2 days you should see a doctor.  Hmmm, should have done that.

I also tried the Chestal Honey.  It had a nice honey flavor.  It did seem to quiet my cough temporarily.  You are supposed to take this cough syrup every 2 hrs.  A little inconvenient for someone who works outside the home or a child in school.

For someone looking for a safe alternative to traditional cough medicines, this is a good one to choose.  I think the flavor would be a little more appealing to children.  You can give it to anyone 2 yrs of age and older.  Not recommended for children under 2.

Last but not least was the Oscillococcinum for Flu-symptoms.  I had actually got a sample of this a while back too.  It comes in small protable tubes.  It has little crystals that you put in your mouth and allow to melt on your tongue.  This has a very pleasant taste.  It put me in mind of a pixie stick whose sugar crystals were a little bigger.  It did seem to aleviate some of my flu-like symptoms when I took it.  Again this is for ages 2yrs and up. (including adults).

There are lot of pros to these products:

1. No drug interactions since they are homeopathic

2.  Non-drowsy

3.  Safe for ages 2yrs to adults (3yrs for Coldcalm tabs)

4.  All of the products have a pleasant taste.

5. Does not cost anymore than other cold remedies.

Cons:

1.  Need to take more frequently than other medications that aren’t homeopathic

2.  In my opinion, not as potent as using a non-homeopathic medication

So, as you can see there are more pros than cons with the Homeopathic Value pack from Boiron Company.

Many places are now selling these Boiron Products.  My friend said she just bought the Chestal at Rite-aid.

Want to try it for yourself and make your own decision?

ReBinder Office Products Review and Giveaway 12/28 US/CAN–CLOSED

Original winner did not respond to winning email.  (I allowed 72 hrs given the holiday) So a new winner has been chosen and emailed. Random.org drew number 31 Mommy D.

I’ve mentioned a number of times how I’m making a conscious effort to live greener. As I’ve been learning and exploring more in the “green” world, I’m amazed at what some companies ARE actually doing to help our environment.

ReBinder Office Products is one of these eco-conscious companies. ReBinder Office Products makes all kinds of green office products from recycled binders, to ReBadge which is a reusable name badge, to ReWrite mini which is a 5″ X 8″ lined recycled notepad, and many more items.

ReBinder is the only ZERO waste office supply manufacturer.

I received a kit with samples of:

RePocket: Our two pocket folder is ideal for presentations, media and press kits or back to school. RePockets are thicker and more rigid than traditional folders. Made from 100% Recycled 20 point FSC Certified bending chipboard.

1″ ReBinder

RePouch

ReTab

1.5″ ReBinder

ReSleeve

RePlay

ReBadge

ReWrite mini

ReBound

One of the things I was most impressed with as far as the individual products was the ReBadge.  I have my own pic here because you don’t really see it too well in the press photo above:

It looks like a name badge.  It also looks and feels like a plastic cover.  Plastic cover?  Wait a minute I thought this was supposed to be eco-friendly.  Well, it is.  Very much so actually.  The “plastic”-like material is actually a clear Poly Lactic Acid that is made from plants.  Pretty cool huh?

So if you’re looking for new three ring binders for your business, school or organization and wanting to make the effort to work greener.  You should try them out.

Maybe you’re looking to green up your cd collection by using Rebinder’s cd sleeves made from 100% recycled chip board.

Perhaps you want a bunch of environmentally friendly pocket folders for your classroom or your own home office organization, they have those too.

It’s kind of scary when you read some of the numbers of what actually goes into our landfills.  What we, as consumers are throwing out on a daily basis.  Every little bit helps. Visit http://www.rebinder.com/ to see all the green product ReBinder offers.
