**I”m a blogger for the USFamilyGuide PittsburghKidsGuide.com.  I will be able to go experience Snapology with my kids to do a review**

We had the pleasure of attending LEGO Kidsfest in Pittsburgh on a few occasions.  One of the vendors that happened to be there was Snapology.  They had a cool robotics battle circle set up and the kids loved playing with it.  I took info from them about Snapology and my older boys told me how much they’d love to go.  They are advertising some of their camps during holiday break and I’m thinking this would be a great time to take them.

I just told my 9 yr old (soon to be 10) and he’s about to flip his lid that we’re gonna get to go check the place out.  I happen to have off of work Dec. 30 and 31 for holiday vaca time.  He’s really hoping to catch the Minecraft camp.

Fun Slides Carpet Skate Park Perfect for Cabin Fever

**I received free admission to Fun Slides Carpet Skate Park as a member of the US Family Guide, PittsburghKidsGuide.com.  No other compensation has been received.**

The minute I heard about Fun Slides Carpet Skate Park in Greensburg, PA I knew I had to take my boys.  I thought “This will be awesome for the holiday breaks or a weekend over the winter when there’s not much to do”  When they start getting cabin fever this will be a good change of scenery and a place to let them exert some energy safely.

I had never been to Fun Slides Carpet Skate Park prior to this visit.  I didn’t know exactly what to expect but I knew my boys would like it.  My boys are 11, 9, and 4 years old. I definitely recommend checking the Fun Slides website before you go: http://www.funslidespark.com/.  The website let’s you know when they’re open, the address for your gps, birthday party info and more. They have 2 hours time slots reserved for skating.  You don’t have to be there on the dot, we actually were 20 minutes late in getting to the 4-6 pm time slot.  They set you up with one of the staff if you’ve never been there before and they fit you with the fun slide skates (which I’ll explain in a minute) give the little ones helmets, and they give you an explanation of what to do and how to start off.  It was very helpful.  They were patient with the 4 of us including my 4 year old who kinda just wanted to do his own thing.

Fun Slides buidling

Now back to the “skates” I was talking about.  They’re actually slides.  I had the chance to talk, to one of the managers, Candy.  We talked for a while.  Her dad was the one that actually invented those little slide things you put under your sofa or whatever to move it around.  She said the kids would take them and use them to skate around on the carpets and he thought, if he could find a way to strap those to the kids’ feet safely they might be on to something.  So he created the fun slides that are available nationwide in stores like Target and more.  You can also buy them at the Fun Slides Carpet Skate Park.

The atmosphere was really fun with black lights and other party lights, glow in the dark necklaces, and all ramps and floors carpeted in the skating area.  Oh speaking of skating areas, one of the reasons the Fun Slides Carpet Skate Park came about was because they were invited to participate in the Gravity games with Fun Slides.  They were asked to set up a little area for the kids to skate around.  Again Candy’s father didn’t think it would be much fun to just skate around in a circle the whole time so that’s when the first carpet ramp was built.  She told me the kids kept lining up to come back.  So the idea of the carpet skate park was born.  As of right now, the one in Greensburg, PA is the only one in existence.  BUT they’re in the process of starting another one in the North Hills area of Pittsburgh.  Wouldn’t it be nice to see more of theses around the country?

All my kids and myself had such a good time.  They even had these little ones called butt slides you can sit on and slide down and longer ones called body slides you can lay on, kind of reminded me of sleds in a way.  My 4 yr old just loved used the body slides and butt slides.

Fun Slides Ty sledfun slides medium ramp fun slides advanced

There were two connected sides.  The first side was the tamer side with small and medium ramps and an area to just skate around.  This is where I stayed when I skated.  The other side was more advanced with a sort of quarter pipe and bigger hills and jumps.  My older boys worked up to that.  To answer any questions, yes you’ll most likely fall at some point.  The bottom picture above is my oldest son taking a spill.  This picture is me taking a spill lol

Fun slides wipeout

The nice part is it’s carpeted so it cushions the blow.  You still get bumped around a bit but it’s not so bad.  I would suggest however wearing a thin long sleeve shirt and pants.  My oldest son did get a carpet burn on his one arm from his spill.

They also have a party room that overlooks the skate park.  I tried to take a picture, it’s not real clear but it’s windowed so people can watch those in the park.  There are lots of tables and chairs and rooms can be sectioned off.  Candy told me they even do Christmas parties, award dinners, and more.

My recommendations for your Fun Slides Carpet Skate Park trip:

–Visit the site and get the address for your GPS or for mapping your trip if you don’t know where it is.  If you see the Family Dollar plaza that helps you find exactly where it is

–Wear a long sleeve t-shirt and pants to prevent carpet burn

–Check the website to see what the time slots are before heading out.  You don’t want to get there at 5:30 for a 4-6 time slot.  Otherwise you’ll either only get a half hour or have to wait for the next session.

–They do have lockers you can use for belongings like purses, wallets, etc if you like.

Also definitely follow them on facebook for updates as well: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fun-Slides-Park/163376563727108

Look what I scored at Just Between Friends Consignment Sale Pittsburgh

***I was provided a free pre-sale pass and luncheon for this post as well as a gift certificate as part of the US Family Guide blogger program***

I had the opportunity to shop the pre-sale today at Just Between Friends Spring/Summer Children’s and Maternity consignment sale at the RME Island Sports Center in the Gold Dome on Neville Island in Pittsburgh.  I had never been to a Just Between Friends Consignment Sale before but you can bet I’ll go again.

I had the opportunity to talk to some of the lovely people who are in charge of the Just Between Friends consignment sales and some of the amazing volunteers.
Looking at the size of the shopping area and how many items there were, I could have only imagined how long it takes to organize, promote, recruit volunteers, take care of consignors, etc.  So I asked them, How long does it take to organize one of their sales?  The organizer for the Pittsburgh East sales told me that almost literally weeks after one sale has ended plans are started for the next.  There’s a lot involved from booking  venue, advertising, and more.
One thing I like was how they talked about how important mommy bloggers are to getting the word out about their sales and they really appreciate their mommy bloggers :-).
I’ll be honest, I was in the zone for shopping for deals.  I nearly forgot to take pictures but don’t worry, I came to my senses during my trip.  Had I had a moving van and didn’t have my  newborn with me I probably  would have bought a lot more.
Ok I’m super psyched about this find.  This was probably one of my fave finds
I don’t know if you can read the tag but I scored a Vera Bradley diaper bag for $6!!!  You bet that went home with me.
I had a mental list of things I needed and wanted to get.  I needed a new infant stroller.  I didn’t know exactly what I wanted I just knew that I wanted something newer than what I had (mine is 10 years old and has lived through 3 boys!) I didn’t want to spend a lot of money.  Boy was there a selection
Ok this wasn’t even all of them.  I just took a quick pic of what I saw.  Everything from jogging strollers, travel systems, car seat frame strollers, double strollers, just about any kind you might want.  I ended up choosing a car seat frame stroller since I did have a toddle stroller for later.
Just look at the price!  Only $20 that went home with me too.
I also picked up a couple outfits for my baby girl, some toys for my youngest son, a pair of shorts for my youngest son, a couple toys for my girl, oh and another thing that was on my list was a car seat mirror for the car so I could glance and see my baby in her car seat if I needed to.  Yep got it for $2.50!  Also got a couple of sun hats, some tights that were new in the package, some nursing pads, and a couple pairs of shoes including a brand new pair of Robeez for my daughter.  Oh my seriously I could have spent all day there.
I stood in the back of the dome and tried to take a pic of just some of the toys.  Trust me this wasn’t even all of them.  They had them sectioned off boys toys, girls toys, games, big play furniture, outdoor toys, Oh that reminds me I also got a baseball glove for my youngest son because he’s been wanting one like his big brother.
So lets take inventory again
–Graco car seat frame stroller $20
–Munchkin car seat mirror $2.50
–1 girls shirt and pants set $5
–1 girls one piece with matching cardigan $3
–new unopened baby tights $1
–Circo Mary Jane Style pink shoes $1
–sun hat purple/blue/green $1
–Sun hat black and white $1.50
–Robeez shoes $4
–Vera Bradley diaper bag $6
–pink elephant toy for carseat/stroller $1
–Bag of 3 Monster trucks for my son $4
–Boys 5/6 shorts $2
–Yellow and lime Franklin baseball glove $2
Um I think that’s everything.  I didn’t get a pic of the trucks, by son ripped that bag open and played with them immediately.  Then mixed them in with the rest of his toys.  But I’m super happy with the deals I got.  I would definitely recommend going if you’re near a Just Between Friends Consignment sale. The one in Pittsburgh is happening May 3-5.
You can get a free admission pass for the Pittsburgh sale through the PittsburghKidsGuide.com here:  http://www.pittsburghkidsguide.com/coupon.php?bid=8902&lid=9098&dealid=242®ionid=58  otherwise it’s $3 at the door to get in.
Thanks to the friendly volunteers who helped me out with my baby while I was there and was more than willing to help with questions and things while I was there!
