Cyber Monday – Page 8 – Luv Saving Money

Holiday Guide: Up North Adventure Books by G.M. Moore

Tween boys, what on earth do you get them that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg?  They want video games, cell phones, laptops, etc.  Maybe you’re trying to get them something to steer them away from the video games and the internet, like maybe a good book to read.

The Up North Adventure Series from G.M. Moore might be just the gift to get them reading over the winter instead parked in front of the tv.  I’ll admit it, it’s not always easy to get my 10 year old to sit down and read a book.  He surprised me when he bought 2 books with his own money at the school book fair the one day and sat down and read them.  The topic was of interest to him.  So I carefully pitched the idea of him reading the Up North Adventure Series to review for this Holiday Guide.  When I read him the descriptions of the books he said “Yea that sounds pretty cool”.

The books available in the series are
Muskie Attack        Ancient Elk Hunt       Snakehead Invasion

The idea of the book series is that the main character (Corbett) has parents that are divorced and very busy.  He ends up leaving the city life to go to the great outdoors to his uncle’s Wisconsin fishing resort over the summer. Corbett feels like there is no one that cares for him but finds out on the resort that he’s never really alone thanks to his uncle.

The day the books arrived my son started looking over them.  He started with the Muskie Attack book.  He sat right down at the dining room table and started reading.  He finished the book in two days and started the next one.  He was telling me about the books.  He seemed really into it and seemed to really understand what was going on in them.  My oldest son is an outdoorsy type so these books really appealed to him.  He said the Ancient Elk Hunt was his favorite one be he liked them all.

After reading some of the books myself I was impressed with the way they were written.  They really could hold a readers attention, even mine though I’m not the outdoorsy type.  The characters personalities are developed throughout the book and you can feel the main character grow from beginning to end.   In my opinion this book series would be appropriate from about 8 years old to about 12 depending on the child’s reading level.  I would say it would even appeal to girls too because there’s a little bit of young crush going on in the book too.

The Up North Adventure Series is also available on iTunes so it can be read on the iPad, iPod Touch, or iPhone

Do you shop on Cyber Monday?

Just about everyone knows about the Black Friday deals.  The Black Friday shoppers are up and out the door before the sun is even up.  Waiting in line in hopes to get their hands on that incredible deal on the TV you saw the add for.  Maybe there’s a special video game your kids just have to have for Christmas.  Whatever it is, Black Friday is a day for deals if you want to brave the madness.

Me, I’ve never been a Black Friday shopper.  Yea, there’s some really good deals out there but Black Friday isn’t for me.  I’m not a morning person to start with.  That mixed with the crowds, waiting in long lines only to find out they are sold out of the very thing you got up for, then the cash register lines, not worth it for me.  I know a lot of people love it, and I admire you.

For me, I love Cyber Monday.  I’m an online shopper anyway but Cyber Monday has some great deals too.  Normally Free or deeply discounted shipping from participating online retailers, special online only sales, coupon codes, and more.

I did a post last year on a few of the deals I found.  Here is the post: http://angiewith2.blogspot.com/2010/11/so-many-deals-this-weekend-so-little.html

Cyber Monday has become one of the biggest online shopping days of the year.  Why? When all those determined folks go out to get those deals and find out the store was sold out of them they jump online Cyber Monday do to try to find it.  That’s the short version of course

I found this article from shop.org with a little more info about Cyber Monday.  By the way, Shop.org were the ones to officially coin the term “Cyber Monday”  http://www.shop.org/cybermonday

You can also see updated Cyber Monday deals on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CyberMondayFans

As I find some good ones I’ll be posting too.  If you hear about any, please feel free to comment here and let us know!

I LOVE CYBERMONDAY!!! Here’s Why…

—Ok all. It’s been a while since I did a meat and potatoes post. You know, what my blog is really about. Saving money! I found some super awesome online deals i wanted to share with you. I took advantage of some of them. Wish I could do them all but even at these great prices I’m still a poor gal. Anywho, hope I save you some money here:

–The Children’s Place has a “Fleece Frenzy” This weekend only. $5 fleece for boys, girls, and babies. Includes Fleece pants. Also if you use code FSholiday you get free shipping Too!  You kind of have to search through the “sale” section in the categories for them but they’re there.  Some of the big boys fleece is already selling out so jump on it if you want some.  I bought an outfit for the baby.

–Urban Decay cosmetics has awesome $6 and $12 deals. It’s only while supplies last. If you are an Urban Decay fan you know that these prices are less than half of what they normally are for most of the items they have on sale. There’s a lot so I won’t list them all here but you can click the hyper link in this bullet and it will take you there.

–I totally took advantage of this one on Drugstore.com.   Drugstore.com is having a “Cyberweek sale”  I found this “Splatter Mat: The Magical Color changing activity mat”  It’s supposed to change colors with body heat and/or warm water.  You can draw on it with your body heat.  And no mess.  They are originally $35 but they have them on their Cyber week sale for $5!  I bought 3: 1 for the baby, 1 to donate to toys for tots, and 1 more just incase.  Why not at that price?  I ordered the 3 splatter mats and the digital keychain and my shopping cart said “you saved a total of $102”  LOL

They have lots of other deals too like a Magellan Roadmate 1424 GPS originally $150.00 for $90, a digital photo keychain originally $20 on sale for $7, 40% off select energizer batteries,  and lot of other stuff.

–Toys R’ Us buy one get one 50% Lego sets, and 50% Kung Zu’s for today Sat. Nov. 27th Only.  BUT the ad in the email I got says that is the “deals of the day” so they must be doing different deals each day.

I’m definitely not a Black Friday Shopper but I am certainly a Cyber Monday shopper.  As I find more I’ll add them to the list.

If you look around, especially on Monday but many started their online sales Friday.  Many places like The Children’s Place, Old Navy, Toy R’ US(orders over $40 I think), and more are offering free shipping.  Overstock.com has free shipping but excludes music, books, Movie, games, and international orders.
