walk away fully intact this time.

I got dressed for work and then left my apartment. I passed my new neighbor halfway down the hall. My feet
halted while it took my brain a moment to catch up. “You,” I said, out loud while turning around.
My guy had been opening his apartment door, he looked at me. “Are you following me?”
I laughed thinking he must be making a joke, but when he didn’t smile, I got the message he wasn’t joking.
“Following you? I live here,” I said.
He looked at me, disbelieving. My face flamed. He thought I was some crazy stalker chick.
“Okay,” he said and turned to leave. The ‘Okay’ sounded drenched in disbelief.
“Wait.” I rummaged through my bag for my keys. I would prove I wasn’t crazy. As I continued to rummage, he
cleared his throat.
God damn bag.
“Just wait,” I growled as I emptied my bag on the floor.
“This isn’t necessary.” He sounded like he wanted to run. I cut him off when I found my keys. To drive my
point home, I waved them in the air, like the mad woman he was accusing me of being. I walked with my head held
high to my door, which was across from his. (Of course it was. This really couldn’t go any other way.)
I put the key in and opened the door. “See, I live here.” He still looked at me as if I was crazy. “Not following
you,” I added as my cheeks flamed.
“Fine.” He didn’t smile, give me his name, nothing just the word fine. He closed his apartment door.
I blinked several times. What just happened? Did I step into an alternate universe where I was the
laughingstock? Was this like The Truman Show? Was everyone at home laughing at my downfall? As I stood there, I
realized I was going to be late for work. I gathered my bag and its belongings, along with my dignity, off the floor
and made my way to work.

Kalamata’s Kitchen Event at Lorelei’s Restaurant in Pittsburgh

Kalamata’s Kitchen is a fun children’s book that encourages children to explore foods. With my youngest 2 children they can sometimes get pretty picky when it comes to food.  We’ve always had a rule in our house though, you’re not allowed to say you don’t like unless you’ve at least tasted it.

The Kalamata’s Kitchen book event and tasting we attended was at Lorelei restaurant in Pittsburgh, PA.  Located at 124 S Highland Ave in Pittsburgh a cocktail bar and beer hall with food inspired from Germany.  The restaurant itself was very airy with lots of natural light and plants.  Located in East Liberty it’s not far from lots of shopping areas, Children’s hospital, and many health clubs.

We ended up being a tad bit late but I was so excited we still had plenty of time to participate in everything.  When we arrived the kids got a VIP pass, a Kalamata’s Kitchen food passport, and an official Taste Bud card.  If the kids at least tried each of the foods they were able to get a stamp on their food passport.

They had interesting and tasty options such as carrot pierogies (which was actually one of my faves), salted caramel mousse, rose-water malaibi with candied kataifi, Frico, and more. Other participating Pittsburgh restaurants included Bar Marco, Casbah, Pie for Breakfast, Cafe Carnegie, and of course, Lorelei.

We also had an opportunity to meet and hear from the team that created Kalamata’s Kitchen including author Sarah Thomas.  Sarah had a book reading with those that participated in the event.  She was so kind and took the time to sign books for those that asked.

We really have some wonderful places in Pittsburgh. I’m so happy that we were invited to the Kalamata’s Kitchen event.  As I sampled with my kids I realized what a wonderful place Lorelei would be for a date or to just slow down in Pittsburgh for a little bit.  I’d love to just sit at the window like my kids did while nibbling on chef’s delightful creations, maybe a glass of wine and just people watch.  I could spend a couple hours there.

My kids have walked away from a new experience.  They got to send their tastebuds on an adventure.  I think they learned a little bit about the work that goes into a book. They did a great job at setting up to really pull kids into the book with the characters and Kalamata’s Kitchen set up.

My kids also came home with Kalamata’s Kitchen book and an apron which my kids just love.  My daughter is now talking about wanting to have a restaurant one day lol.

Prologue
Is this what dying feels like?
Phil Bancroft ran his tongue over his dry lips. Where did that thought come from? He watched Dee, the
woman he loved, touch the tip of the gleaming gold dagger. This was not the homecoming he had
expected. He had only just returned from New York and they should be in each other’s arms. Dee had
told him Paula took the pills and now she was dead. Poor Paula. Phil wished he could feel remorse for
his dead wife. Guilt. Anything. After all, she was an innocent obstacle who had been murdered at his
lover’s hands. Her only crime was to have been sole inheritor of her father’s fortune. If that man had not
cut his younger daughter—Dee—out of his will, Paula would still be alive today. They could have
divorced and gone their separate ways. It was his fault she had to be killed.
Everything they had wanted was now theirs, but Dee seemed different somehow. Distant. A smile
played on her lips, but not her usual lighthearted smile. No, this one was almost…cruel.
“What are you doing with that, Dee?” he asked, nodding at the dagger.
She shook her head. “Not Dee. She is gone.”
Phil held out his hand to take the weapon from her and wondered why his fingers trembled. “Don’t
mess around. Give me the dagger before one of us gets hurt.”
Her smile twisted into a snarl. Surely her eyes weren’t that color? Dark blue. No, violet. Dee has brown
eyes.
The library door burst open and a familiar figure strode in. Stefan Bloch—the estate agent in whose
hands the owners of the magnificent Villa Dürnstein had placed responsibility for administering the
lease. But he had no business here today.
“What are you doing here?” The words died on Phil’s lips. The estate agent ignored him, made straight
for Dee, and took her in his arms. “What the hell?” Phil lurched forward and grabbed Stefan’s arms. He
tried to drag him off the woman who was responding all too passionately.
Stefan let Dee go and wheeled round, landing a stinging blow to the side of Phil’s head. He staggered
and fell hard against the library desk.
The man and the woman towered over him as he lay sprawled on the floor, his hand checking his jaw for
damage.
Phil stared at them. He no longer knew these people. Oh, they looked the same, but their eyes told a
different tale. Dee and Stefan were no longer there. So who were they?As if she had read his thoughts, the woman spoke. “You are right to cower before us. The woman you
knew as Dee is no longer here. Her spirit has passed over. I, Arsinoe, Queen of Egypt and the Nile,
inhabit her body.” She indicated Stefan. “The man who inhabited this body is also gone. My lover,
Nebunaten, has been reborn in him, but this body is dying. He needs a healthy host.”
He heard the words, but they couldn’t be true. Someone was playing a cruel joke. Maybe Paula wasn’t
dead after all. Yes, that was it, she must be behind all this. He scrambled to his feet. “Stop this right now.
I don’t know what the hell’s going on here, but if you seriously expect me to believe anything you’ve just
told me, you are mistaken. Dee—”
He watched incredulously as the woman he loved threw back her head and laughed. A horrible, hollow
sound. “Still you will not believe. You think your lover killed your wife with pills. She did not. She killed
her with this.” She waved the dagger. “And that was the last memory your Dee took with her into the
afterlife. With the god Set and goddess Sekhmet to aid me, I took her body, just as Nebunaten took the
man’s. Now it is your turn to surrender your earthly form.”
The blade flashed once. Twice. Blood spurted from two deep wounds in his chest. His limbs grew
heavier, as if someone had attached lead weights to them. Everything slowed as he sank to his knees,
blood pouring through his hands as he desperately fought, in vain, to stanch the flow. A low growl
echoed through his brain. The figure of a cat stood on its hind legs, changing to a half-human form
before his rapidly dimming eyes. The woman spoke in a foreign tongue and the man took hold of Phil’s
shoulders. Something tugged at his spirit, dragging it out of his body as a dark cloud descended on his
mind.
This is what dying feels like.
And then he knew no more.

Booke
of the Hidden
A Booke of the Hidden
Novel #1

Westerson
creates an utterly believable history of witches, demons, and magic
for her claustrophobic New England village including a heroine with
enough spark, smarts, and stubbornness to keep both the bad guys and
the deliciously dangerous love-interest on their toes.” —Kat
Richardson, author of the Greywalker series

To
get a fresh start away from a bad relationship, Kylie Strange moves
across the country to open a shop in a seemingly quiet town in rural
Maine. During renovations on Strange Herbs & Teas, she discovers
a peculiar and ancient codex,
The
Booke of the Hidden
,
bricked into the wall. Every small town has its legends and unusual
histories, and this artifact sends Kylie right into the center of
Moody Bog’s biggest secret.

While
puzzling over the tome’s oddly blank pages, Kylie gets an
unexpected visitor—Erasmus Dark, an inscrutable stranger who claims
to be a demon, knows she has the book, and warns her that she has
opened a portal to the netherworld. Kylie brushes off this nonsense,
until a series of bizarre murders put her, the newcomer, at the
center. With the help of the demon and a coven of witches she
befriends while dodging the handsome but sharp-eyed sheriff, Kylie
hunts for a killer—that might not be human.

A scene between the demon Erasmus Dark, and the heroine, Kylie Strange discussing the Booke of the
Hidden.“Mortals,” he muttered with a sneer. “I—who have been intimately intertwined with the
book, captured by its covers for thousands of years—I don’t even know what it does or why. Do
you think for one moment I like this? That I like being yanked about from century to century, to
listen to the mewling of each Chosen Host as she does her job. Do you think I truly enjoy taking
my—”
He stopped, shutting his lips as if locking a door on them.
“Taking your what?”
“Never mind,” he growled. “This is my lot in life. I was created for this. And I shall be
part of it until the end of time.”
“I don’t think so.”
“What do you mean you ‘don’t think so’?”
“I’m stopping this Booke. This is the last generation of crap from it. Its days of taking a
Chosen Host are over. My family…” I laughed, thinking about it. It’s our curse. Did we bring it
over to the New World? How long had my ancient ancestors been entrusted with this thing?
Cursed by it? “When I close the covers of this Booke, it isn’t opening again for anyone else.”
He folded his arms. “Oh, how the arrogance of the human race astounds me. Go on. Tell
me. Explain exactly how you are going to do that?”
I shrugged. “I don’t know. But I’ve got my Wiccans. We’ll figure something out. I’m not
alone, you know.”
His expression faded and his arms fell away from his chest. “I see. You…you think to
succeed where others have failed. Well…the others were alone. Perhaps…perhaps there may be
something to what you say.”

That gave me hope. No, I wasn’t alone. If those other Chosen Hosts had struck out on
their own without any back-up, then of course they had little chance. Ha! I had my little army.
There was a chance. But then…
“What happens to you?”
He looked toward the floor, his long hair hanging over his face and hiding his eyes.
“Then I…cease.”
“Cease. What do you mean ‘cease’?”
When he lifted his face there was no expression either on his face or in his usually
expressive eyes. “I fail to exist. Or in your parlance, I die.”
“What? No. That…can’t be right.”
“My sole existence is to serve the one who opens the book. There is no other reason for
my creation. When the book dies, so, too, do I.”
“We’ll find a way. We’ll find a way to…um…unbind you.”
“And why, by Beelze’s tail, would you want to do that?”
I breathed. There should have been a lot swirling around in my mind but there wasn’t.
Only the aspect of this stupid demon’s non-existence. I couldn’t fathom it. I didn’t want to.
Striding forward I took his face in my hands and kissed him.
There were suddenly arms around me holding me close. His mouth opened and his
lips—so hot, so wet—kissed me urgently, as if it was his last day on earth. I tried not to think
about that and just surrendered myself to simply feeling.
He nipped my bottom lip and grazed my chin with his teeth. His mouth was on my neck
and I arched toward him. I could feel his hardness through our clothing and I had a flash of about
a week ago of my bed, the quilt, the body of a god, and the wildness as we let ourselves go. I

began vaguely wondering about the kitchen floor when he suddenly drew back. I nearly fell
backward when he released me and turned away.
Stumbling, I adjusted my stance and wiped the wet from my mouth.
His back was to me, and his shoulders were heaving with great gusting breaths. “Damn
you,” he murmured. “We…can’t.”
“We did once.”
“That was my arrogance. And my folly.”
I breathed, trying to control the tremors in my body. How he could get me into such a
lather I’ll never know. Even harking back to my evening with Ed, it had been good with
him…but it was never like this.
“Okay. All right. Let’s focus on what’s important. My grandfather’s notebook.”

Her debut novel, ‘Secrets

Born and raised in Germany, the author has spent many years supporting
her husband’s
military career. Moving between Europe and the United States, she now
makes her home in the small rural town of Elizabethtown, Kentucky
where she enjoys the slower pace of small town living. Early morning
weekend walks with her dog Harper are among her favorite activities.

TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON I-65, bottleneck traffic is slowly dissipating. Rush hour is over, but the
recent storm has kept many employees at their offices past their normal office hours, while others have
fled the streets to remain safely inside restaurants, bars, or shops.
Starting to relax, Emily turns up the volume of the country station tuned on the car’s radio. She hums
along as Keith Urban’s sexy voice fills the interior of her aunt’s old 4-runner… “Baby, Blue Ain’t Your
Color.”
Her exit was just a few miles ahead. Another twenty minutes after that, and she’d finally be home.
Home…How strange that sounds, she thinks to herself.
Cars and trucks are passing by fast as she keeps her speed steady at the posted limit. The experience of
flashing blue lights pulling her over has taught her to be cautious at this particular stretch of interstate.
Driving in the far right lane keeps her from speeding.
Whoa…buddy! How about a little distance?
“Get off my butt, will ya?” A black pickup truck has sped up fast behind her, closing in on her tail. The
vehicle looms large and menacing in her rearview mirror.
“What…are you freaking nuts? GET OFF MY ASS!” she shouts as she steps on the gas in an attempt to
create more space between them. With rising anger, she flips him the bird and watches in horror as the
truck then speeds up. Front and rear bumpers are within an inch of touching each other.
Frantically checking her rearview mirror, she can’t see the driver’s face but realizes the truck is relentless
in its pursuit. But why?
In sudden fear, Emily’s heart begins pounding rapidly inside her chest. Her knuckles turn white as she
curls her hands tightly around the steering wheel in an effort to brace for what she instinctively knows
will come next.
Shiiit… NOO! This is gonna hurt…briefly flashes through her mind. Panic burns in her chest as adrenaline
floods her body at the sound of metal crunching.
