I’m frugal by nature. I enjoy the thrill of finding what I need at a great price. I often think that if I’d come into a lot of money like through the Powerball for example, that I’d still be frugal and use the money wisely. I’ve watched that tv show “Curse of the Lottery Winners” before and most of it just seemed like poor financial planning. I remembering watching one where I guy talked about buying a monster truck and then buying some for his friends. I think he also bought a couple houses and some other things. I’m not saying you shouldn’t have fun, but I’m saying maybe put some away, invest it, something!
Ok that being said I’ve thought about this many times. First of all I’d hiring a financial advisor I trust. An accountant we already use would be my first choice because the office also does financial planning. I would of course pay off bills and set up a fund for each of my kids to pay for college and help them start their adult lives…Not too much though I want to help not spoil. I think I’d also buy a reasonable family car for myself. At this point in time I really want a Chevy Traverse. I think they seat 8 people and seem like they would be great for the PA weather here.
My hubby has always dreamed about having a Corvette so I think I’d spring for one for him. Sometimes I visit PA car dealership websites just to dream. I saw a video for the 2014 Corvette Stingray on http://www.klicklewiscars.com and I picture me riding in it with hubby at the wheel.
My next fun thing would be a trip to the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. I priced it out one time and the cost for a family of 6 with airfare is way over our heads but if we won the lottery I’d be sitting in a travel agent’s office booking our trip.
I’d probably do some upgrades to our house like adding on another room and getting our attic finished but honestly if all those things were taken care of, wow, the thought of that just makes me happy.
So what about you, what would you do if you won the Powerball or somehow came into several million dollars?

I love this. How cool would it be ey?? omg, I would go to Bora Bora like first thing. Just take the clothes on my back and GO! rent an over the water bungalo and stay for a month. Not sure if id bring the hub and kids either..lol.
Bora Bora yes! I’ve seen what you’re talking about and that would be pure relaxation to me. lol I hear what you’re saying. I think for just me and the hubs, I’d be worried about the little ones the whole time plunking into the water
I would finally go on a honeymoon with hubby
That sounds great! Do you have any idea where you’d like to go?
I am easily the most boring person in the world to answer this question. I’d upgrade my mom-mobile, pay of my house and any other debts, and then the rest would go into trustfunds for my kids. There’d be no husband quitting his job or any of that other nonsense.
Nothing wrong with that. I work part-time at a hospital and like my job. I often wonder if I would quit my job or not. I like the adult socialization and the chance to use my skills. Trust funds for the kids, I agree with that too
Bora Bora yes! I’ve seen those over the water bungalows and I think that would be pure relaxation! Thanks for the great comment
If I were to win the Powerball, I would do all the normal things like pay bills, take care of the kids for life, etc. Additionally, I’d like to pay off the mortgage at my church, build an orphanage/school in a 3rd world country, and such. I’d also like to build an apartment building to house homeless families to help them get back on their feet. Then when all that is said and done, I’d love to meet Dale Earnhardt, Jr. 🙂
It’s fun to dream, huh?
wow, that’s a very generous answer. I’ve often thought about donating to my kids’ highschool because they are in need of repairs and I Thought it would be fun at Christmas time to take care of a bunch of wishes off the angel trees as well. I admire your answer
Oh there are so many things! I would say first would be a new 15 passenger van that has shoulder belts for all the seats. Then it would be things for my kids
My husband and I talk about this often. The first thing we would do is pay off the loan our church has on their building, then pay off all of our debt and buy a house (we currently rent). Then we would throw in some fun (Disney world, Hawaii). But we both decided we wouldn’t give up our jobs, we both like them to much (I am a para educator and he is Law Enforcement)
