Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
I have used vinyl decals to decorate walls and doors in my house and even on my car. When you get the hang of applying them vinyl decals can be an easy way to add personality and design to many surfaces. But what about nails?
Vinyl Disorder has a big selection of vinyl nail decals to choose from. It looks like many of the designs have a bunch of color options to choose from as well. I received 2 sheets of vinyl nail decals: stars and hearts, both with a cool holographic type finish. Looking at the site it looks like this option would be “holographic glitter”. The decals come on sheets of 20 so you have enough to do each nail and each toe nail if you like. The instructions that came with the nail decals was a general instruction for installing all vinyl decals (this includes wall decals, car decals, etc) On the site in the description of the individual nail decals it says just to peel the paper pack, place them on the nail and add a clear top coat.
I decided to paint my nails and try the star decals first.
Not sure if you could see in the picture but the star points did not want to stay down. I tried pressing and hold them and rubbing them down with my nail. I couldn’t get the points to stay down. I applied a clear top coat anyway hoping it might help in some way but it did not. This is what the star ended up looking like by the next day.
By the next day the points of the stars had ripped off and the ones that were left were all peeling away. I went to the website again wondering if I missed something. I realized when looking at the site that the example pictures did not have polish on the nails. I thought perhaps that was where I goofed since there was no specific directions. I removed my polish and and cleaned my nails well just to avoid any errors for application. I applied the heart decals to my bare nail then applied a clear top coat over.
I did put a little color on the top just to add a little dimension to my nails. The decals did work out better on the bare nail. I did put the clear coat over top. So I guess to answer the question, do vinyl nail decals work? My answer would be yes but only on bare nails. You can find these vinyl nail decals and more at VinylDisorder.com.
