A Spell of Murder Book Tour, Guest Post & Giveaway

A Spell of Murder
Witch Cats of Cambridge Book 1
by Clea Simon
Genre: Cozy Mystery
It’s Harriet’s fault. It’s always her fault, not that she’ll ever admit it.” So begins A Spell of Murder: A Witch Cats of Cambridge mystery, the first in a new cozy series that mixes feline fiction with a touch of the paranormal, and a little romance as well.
Becca, newly single and newly unemployed, wants to believe she has
psychic powers. With nothing but time – and a desire for empowerment – she’s studying to become a witch. What she doesn’t know is that her three cats – Harriet, Laurel, and Clara – are the ones with the real power. And when Harriet – “a cream-colored longhair with more fur than commonsense” – conjures a pillow for her own comfort, Becca believes her spells are finally working. Could that be why Trent, the coven’s devilishly handsome leader, has been showing her special attention? Or why Suzanne, a longtime coven member, draws her aside to share a secret – a confidence that may lead to murder?
Clea Simon is the author of “A Spell of Murder,” the first in her new “Witch Cats of Cambridge” series. She is also the author of “World Enough,” a rock ‘n’ roll noir, as well as the Blackie and Care series (most recently “Cross My Path”) chronicling the adventures of the pink-haired Care and the black feral cat who loves her. In addition to these darker books, she is also the author of the Dulcie Schwartz feline mysteries, the Pru Marlowe pet noir mysteries, and the Theda Krakow mysteries, as well as three nonfiction books, including The Feline Mystique: On the Mysterious Connection Between Women and Cats.
The recipient of multiple honors, including the Cat Writers Associations Presidents Award, she lives in Somerville, Massachusetts, with her husband, Jon Garelick, and their cat, Musetta.

Am I cozy?
Readers sometimes ask me: Are my books cozy? And the honest answer is, I’m not sure. Yes, I can promise you that in my new A Spell of Murder, the story is gentle. There is no sex or foul
language and, while there is a murder, the blood (as the old saying goes) is dry before it hits the page. Plus, there are cats – three of them – and cats always make a story cozier, don’t you
agree?

But more and more these days, I find myself telling readers that my books aren’t strictly “cozies,” per se. They’ve got a few too many twists, a couple of extra characters, and even a few extra felines, all designed to make the book a little more challenging than some cozy
readers might expect.

For example, although Becca, the human at the center of A Spell of Murder, is a perfectly likable
young woman, she’s not the point of view character. Her youngest cat, Clara, is. And although Clara wishes she could spend all her time focusing on Becca, especially as Becca gets involved with some shady characters (and a murder), she also has to deal with her two litter-mates,
Harriet and Laurel. While they love their human too, they have a bit less respect for Clara, their youngest, and they act as sisters often do.
So if you ask me how I would describe this book, I would say it is whimsical and fun and warm, but a bit challenging as well, since it deals with personalities as well as a caper, cats as well as
crime. But if you can stick with it, I promise you a happy ending – because who doesn’t like a happy ending? Does that make it cozy? In its own way, I guess it does!

Tamela Miles is a California State University San Bernardino graduate student with a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development and a former flight attendant. She grew up in Altadena, California in that tumultuous time known as the 1980s. She now resides with her family in the Inland Empire, CA. She’s a horror/paranormal romance writer mainly because it feels so good having her characters do bad things and, later, pondering what makes them so bad and why they can never seem to change their wicked ways.

She enjoys emails from people who like her work. In fact, she loves emails. She can be contacted at tamelamiles@yahoo.com or her Facebook page, Tamela Miles Books. She also welcomes reader reviews and enjoys the feedback from people who love to read as much as she does.

Natalie shook her head slowly. “I don’t think so. You recognize you have a problem, and
that’s a great start for our work together, but your mistake lies in thinking you can, and should,
conquer this on your own. If you think I’m wrong, prove it to me.”
He gave her an assessing look. “Prove it? How?”
She placed her hands on her hips, tilting her head slightly. “Empty your pockets.”
Billy had a sinking feeling and closed his eyes for a moment. “What? Why?” Her expression
never changed, and he knew she had him beat. For the moment, anyway. He slowly reached into
his shorts pocket, pulling out his wallet and cell phone.
She showed him no mercy, as he had fully expected. “Now, the other pocket, please.”
He reached into his other pocket and slowly pulled out a silver flask full of vodka that he
kept on him most of the day. Before he could say a word in his defense, she snatched the small,
silver container and emptied the liquor onto the sand.
“Hey! What the hell—”
Natalie turned and handed the flask back to him. “You won’t be needing that while we’re
working together, and if I do my job, you won’t need it after. This has to be a collaboration
between the two of us, and keeping you from drinking is the first step to making sure you’re
totally on board.”

“You think I’m Sally Jane Powell?”
“I can’t confirm that, not without a DNA test, but…” Lisa pulled out two driver’s licenses from
the envelope. “I found these in that shoebox you gave me, the one with your parents’ personal effects
and your photos and stuff. Your parents were first issued driver’s licenses in Wisconsin in nineteen
ninety-four, five years after you were born, also the year Sally was kidnapped.”
Lisa tapped the photos on the licenses. “Look at your parents, Slee. You look nothing like them.
Do you know the chances of two brown-eyed adults, both with dark hair, having a blonde, blue-eyed
child? It’s exceptionally rare. It’s possible one of your grandparents had blue eyes, but I couldn’t find
any photos to confirm.”
“Maybe I was adopted. I always wondered…”
Lisa shook her head. “I’m sorry, Slee. I couldn’t find a record of that either.” She pulled out two
more news clippings. “Slee, this is a photo of you when you were seven. When you won a spelling
bee? It was in your box.” She handed the other clipping to Sarah. “Compare that photo to the one of
Sally. The one the police distributed when she was taken.”
Sarah studied both photos. Then she shook her head. “There are some similarities, sure. Same
eyes. Same color hair. But there are also some differences. My face is thinner. My hair is long and
straight. Hers is curly. It could just be a coincidence.” She looked up at Lisa and her eyes filled. “No
way I was kidnapped. My parents loved me too much. Besides, don’t people kidnap for money?”
Lisa shook her head. “Not always. Sometimes, they just want a child.” She patted Sarah’s hand.
“Slee, I know this is disturbing, but let’s not put the cart before the horse. And no matter what we
find, that doesn’t make your parents any less your parents. Sure, there’s a chance that you don’t share
their blood, but they loved you. Hold on to that.”

Can Quinn open her mind enough to help her and her dead lover? Is it okay to commit a crime for a greater purpose? And what is appropriate attire for a séance or digging up a grave?
Bad Man, Bad Ghost
Whispers Series Book 2
Finding clues in the shoes of a dead man in a coffin wasn’t what Quinn thought she would do when she became a mortician. She also didn’t expect the bodies that entered her funeral home to have lived their lives as bad men or to whisper their requests to her—not only demands that she has to fulfill to get them to stop, but ones that might lead her to commit acts on the wrong side of the law.
The spirit of a mob boss has entered Quinn O’Reilly’s funeral parlor and his whispers drag her into a world of criminals, secrets and lies. Once again, she enlists the help of her friends—Andjela, a communicator with the dead, Mr. Princeton, a professor of Egyptian studies at the local university, Chester, the owner of the town cemetery and Chaz, her best friend and assistant—to find the clues that will lead her to what the dead man wants. She realizes that she can’t answer the whispers alone which force her to put her friends in danger.
Soon she finds it’s not only the dead Mafia boss that wants something from her, but so does his wife, his mistress and strange, dark men in dark suits.
To make matters worse, Quin is realizing that the whispers of spirits aren’t going to go away. Neither is the specter that still haunts her apartment.
Dirty Wrong
Whispers Series Book 3
Eleanor’sspirit is doing a lot of griping in Quinn’s funeral home. She was the wife of a member of the Mafia who was murdered several years prior and now she wants something from Quinn. Her best friend nicknamed her “Mafia magnet” since this is the second spirit to contact her who is connected to the mob. She knows she is destined to a life of answering their ghostly requests but she wonders if all the spirits that contact her will always be on the wrong side of the law.
Once again, Quinn must put her friends in danger to help her decipher the clues Eleanor’s spirit has communicated to them. It leads them to the now defunct, dark, and foreboding subway tunnels beneath the city where they discover they’re not the only one’s searching for whatever Eleanor has hidden. There’s a war going on in the tunnels and they can’t tell who’s winning—the ghosts or the Mafia. What will happen if the war in the tunnel keeps them from finding the answers to Eleanor’s clues? Will the price they have to pay for being in the middle of it be too much for Quinn to handle?
Sound Travels
Whispers Series Book 4
Once again, Quinn hears the whispers of the dead, but when it follows her on a trip to New York City with Andjela and Chaz to help her parents find a missing girl, Quin realizes the whisper is that of the missing girl, Sofia.
The niece of Eleanor, the last spirit to elicit Quinn’s help, Sofia had somehow gotten mixed up in her family’s Mafia mess. Now she is dead.
Quinn summons Mr. Princeton and Chester to New York City to help them communicate with Sofia. Together, they must follow the clues to find Sofia’s body and the cause of her death.
Who is really responsible for the murder of a young girl? What was Sofia hiding that got her killed? Will Quinn and her friends find her and what it was she was hiding?
And why are there two different black SUV’s that show up where ever they are?
Follow Quinn, Andjela, Mr. Princeton, Chester and Chaz into two very menacing worlds-that of the Mafia and of the dead, and discover the newest hiding spot—a very large hole in Brooklyn.

A Postmodern Love Book Tour & Giveaway

A Postmodern Love
by Nick Totem
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Have you ever fallen in love and then had not just your life but your conception of life altered forever? Come and find out more in A POSTMODERN LOVE, a contemporary adult novel–romance, noire, psychological suspense.

In the end, a man is shot through the heart. Another man is driven to the edge of madness. Caught between them is Lana Fauves, a beautiful, intelligent woman, but one who is haunted by her past and the loss of her true love, a musical genius. In this fast-paced novel–romance, thriller, and noire–Thomas Wilde, a doctor and veteran of the Iraq War, will stop at nothing to win over the woman he has desperately fallen in love with. But amid the machinations of the modern world, will he find true love, or only heartache, deception, and murder?

Nick Totem has been a practicing physician for more than a decade, and he has been writing all his life. He combined real experience in medicine with a love for writing to create compelling fiction.

In the end, the bullet goes through the man’s heart. Without oxygen, the brain takes about five
minutes to die. As the man lies bleeding on the dirty pavement, his unmoving eyes must still be
able to see the killer looking down on him and to feel the killer’s hands on him. Does he
recognize the disguised face of the killer? No one on earth can possibly know the answer to this
question, and yet it would continue to plague the killer for years to come.
As for the killer, he would be obsessed to the point of almost seeing through the man’s dying
eyes. Sometimes he would wander the streets, being blown here and there like an apparition,
suffering from its consequences. Unlike the dead man, there would be no certainty for him; even
his own intention would later become doubtful—did he really mean to kill the man?
When it all began, Thomas Wilde was merely trying to rid his conscience of the guilt that had
followed him home from Iraq. It began when he caught glimpses of a woman around his office,
whose beauty was such that it gave him premonitions of a beautiful chaos. And wanting to give
her permanency in his idealized world, he called her Lady X.
He had seen this woman several times and always in passing. The first time, he was exiting an
elevator as she was entering, and he couldn’t help turning around to look at her. The second
time, a couple weeks later, he saw her walking down the hall and disappearing into a stairway.
Once at lunch time, he left his office and saw her near an exit, at the far end of a hallway. White
slacks above black high heels, a dark red jacket, and a white scarf around her neck—there
could be no mistake that it was she. He ran. He reached the exit, entered the stairway, and
raced down. In the lobby, he got to the front door and immediately bolted into the parking lot,
looking around. She was walking fast to a car with its engine running. She opened the car’s
door, and her hand was lifted high, resting on the rim of the door for just a second before she
stepped in. The car drove off. He stood still, looking on, until it turned onto the street and
merged into the rushing traffic.
He decided he must know her name.
