This has been such a weird year in so many ways Back in December my husband and I were starting to talk about our summer vacation for 2020. My husband also loves going to the local community pool in the summer time. They had a big sale on the family passes around the holidays. We never buy our pool passes that early but we couldn’t pass up the deal, especially knowing (at the time) we were going to get one anyway. Normally the only concerns about not being able to use our poll pass is a few summer thunderstorms.

We booked out beach house for the 3rd week of June in Topsail Island back in the end of January. Even at that time we had no idea what was about to happen. I’m a gatherer. I’d normally be stocking up on things we’d need for vacation like sunscreen, dramamine, etc but I didn’t want to this year because we weren’t even sure we’d be able to go.

I know these ramblings sound insignificant with a lot of the worries out there but I have to think there is no normal for anyone right now. My husband and I are both essential workers. My husband is a corrections officer in a state prison and I’m a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in a local hospital. We only go on vacation every other year and we could really use it this year.

Tell me, how has all this stuff with the pandemic changed or altered your plans? I have a $10 Amazon gift card to offer up so you can either get something you need of for your plans or maybe to help with some staycation items.

  7. This has altered all of my summer plans! Pretty much everything has been cancelled!

  8. Yes, all of them pretty much! No corn hole tournaments or festivals or traveling to visit family and friends.

  9. It has. I haven’t planned the usual summer getaway, but it’s early in the season yet. It can still happen, but more importantly, I want to do my part to reduce the spread of the virus.

  10. We were not able to do our family vacation but will hopefully do at a later date. Thank you

  11. Yes, we had planned to go on a trip to visit family but have canceled that.

  12. Usually we go to amusement parks, the beach, an aquarium near Philly, the Crayola Experience – not looking good to do any of that this year.

  13. Yes, I was supposed to have my 20th reunion this year, now it will be a 21st reunion!

  14. So disappointed I had to cancel my trip to see The Rolling Stones in concert. I hope they reschedule!!

  15. We will probably be staying put most of the summer – but still having some backyard fun!

  16. Yes! I was supposed to be celebrating a milestone birthday in FL with my best friend, but our reservation at the beach house was cancelled. Along with that was a trip to Indianapolis and volunteering at a summer camp.

  17. Nope, not changed anything for me…I don’t drive or go places so no, no changes for me.

  18. I’m earning a MSW degree and my graduation ceremony was in June but it was cancelled because of COVID. I will also be giving birth in August and I want my mom to be in the delivery room, but she won’t be allowed to. I had to cancel my baby shower too.

  19. It’s definitely changed things. I usually go to a lot of local events in the summer and these have been cancelled for the most part.

  20. Yes, our plans have changed. My husband usually has a huge trade show in Florida in July and my son drive down with him and stay with my father in law. The event was cancelled a month ago.

  21. Yes, we have had to cancel going to the beach and 6 flags for Memorial Day weekend.

  23. Most definitely.. My God daughter died on 4/30. My summer plans is going to Illinois to pay her respects..

  24. Not really— I didn’t have much planned for the summer. With that in mind, though, it has affected some late-Spring plans.
I had tickets for two different shows, both to see my favorite musician. The shows were scheduled for mid-March, and they’ve been rescheduled. While I’m glad that the shows were canceled, I was devastated when I heard the news.
Also, my sister and her fiancée were set to be married earlier this month. They’ve canceled the wedding, and plans are up in the air. But they’re a very strong and solid pairing, and while I know this must be difficult for them I’m confident that they are going to be quite all right. …I do miss my sister, though. She lives far away, and I haven’t seen her in a long time.
