Hurricane Sandy pre-post – Luv Saving Money

Hurricane Sandy pre-post

I’m here in NorthEastern US in Pennsylvania.  I’m farther inland, closer to Pittsburgh.  We are still supposed to see the effects of this storm.  As of right now, in my area, they are saying 3-6 inches of rain, high winds, cold temperatures, and the possibility of power outages.  We’re not due to see the worst of the storm until tomorrow sometime and into Tuesday in my area.

I’m writing this post to let you know that if something happens you don’t see me on here for a day or two, we might have lost power.  I do have a couple posts auto scheduled for this week though.
I also wanted to take this time to tell others that may be in the path of the storm to prepare as best as you can.
–Keep a couple gallons of clean water on hand.  If the storm hasn’t started in your area yet you can take empty milk jugs or extra pitchers and fill them up.
–Make sure any and all flashlights are working and have batteries so they are ready for use
–If you don’t have a generator, make sure your kerosene heater or other non-electrical heaters  is cleaned and filled with the appropriate fuel
–If you have candles keep one in a couple of room in and easy to find spot so if the power goes out you’ll still have some light.  Along these lines, also keep matches, lighters, or aim n’ flame type lighters handy
–Is your grill secured and does it have fuel?  If you have a safe place to use it, you could use it to cook a meal if your power goes out.
–Gather blankets and board games .  You could all gather in one room with the non-electric heater to keep warm and entertain yourselves.
–Charge any electronic devices now like your cell phone, laptop, handheld game systems, etc anything you think you might need or want during the storm.
Those are just a few of tips.  Feel free to comment with more.  I’m sure there’s something I missed.  Stay safe everyone!

  1. In Ohio I think the only thing we might get from this is the rain, cold temperature, and possibly snow showers so I’m grateful for that. Stay safe and God bless you and your family.

  2. To all our fellow Americans in harm’s way during this storm – my sincere prayers for your safety and well being – hunker down – and play it safe.
