Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

My 10 year old son gets migraine headaches.  He’s been getting them for years.  I’ve taken him to the pediatrician about it because children’s pain medications just didn’t help him.  After talking with the doctor I found out it was ok for my son to take an adult Tylenol or Excedrin when he gets his migraines.  The problem was he started getting them around 1st grade and still he has trouble swallowing pills.  I didn’t have a pill crusher so I had been putting them in sandwich bag and smashing them with a spoon which worked ok but sometimes the bag would break or some of the medicine would get stuck on the inside of the bag.

CRUSH Pill Crusher from Sabi is a unique pill crusher that not only does what you think it would do but also has a built in pill box.

I thought this would be very useful in our house.  I had a headache the other day and decided to give it a try for myself.  The blue part screws in and out of the base.  It’s great for keeping this piece in place but when I took it out and put the Excedrin in. I had some trouble getting the threads to align.  When I finally did I tried screwing it in to crush the pills.  I really had to put some torque into it and it crushed the pills but not as much as I’d like them too for my son who mixes them into pudding or applesauce when he has his migraines.  I had about 3 tries of screwing and unscrewing until I felt they were crushed enough that my son could swallow them.  I think this would be hard for someone to use who might have arthritis or any type of weakness in their grasp.

I like the idea of having the pill box in the top.  This would make this portable and easy to take meds with you if that’s what you or a person you’re caring for needed.  In the end I think this does work but I think there are some features that could be improved.  Sabi offers other pill boxes and containers on their site: http://sabi.com

  1. Luckily my son has always been able to take pills with no problem. I couldn’t when I was real little but learned to as a teenager. My brother on the other hand who is in his late 30s still has to crush his pills.
