UGLee Pens, looks funny works great: review and giveaway

UGLee Pens were created by Dr. Lee.  Dr. Lee has a BS in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University and his MD from Stanford University School of Medicine.  When he was a medical student, he took lots of notes.  As a Dr. he averages 20 full pages of hand written notes a day.  With all the writing he’s done he’d find his hand cramping.  Thinking there has to be a more comfortable pen.  After 8 years of obsessively experimenting, making prototypes, and even being known to fire his own clay pens, he came up with the UGLee Pen.

It has a full size grip where your fingers would grip the pen . It’s paired with the smoothest ink system known.
I tried the UGLee pen for myself and gave one to my husband to use.  I work in the health field too.  Making my patient list, taking down notes, marking of papers, filling out my mandatory paper work.  Not to mention at home with signing kids papers, filling out forms, keeping notes for this blog, and whatever else may come up.
Just holding the pen I was impressed with how comfortable it felt.  The grip is larger and has sort of a gel like feel.  It has a raised design in the gel-like grip that also seems to help keep it from slipping.  It does write well.  I had to do the initial scratches at first to get it going but as soon as the ink started to flow I didn’t have to put much pressure at all to get a legible ink stroke.
Another feature I like about the UGLee pens is that the ink cartridge is refillable.  A pack of ten refills is only $15 plus shipping.  You can get blue, black, or red ink.   The pen itself come in a variety of colors.  The 3 I received were blue.

Carmex Healing Lotion and Healing Cream review and #giveaway

Did you know that Carmex products have been around for nearly 75 years?   People have been using Carmex lip balms for that long.  I remember my grandmother having a pot and tube of Carmex lip balm on, what she called, her bureau.  As a kid I used to go over to her mirror and put some of it on my lips. The scent of it still reminds me of my grandmother.

Carmex is growing their line.  In addition to the lip balms, they are introducing their Carmex Skin Care line.  The non-greasy feel along with quality ingredients, and their effectiveness are something Carmex is proud of.  At only $5.99 a tube, it’s a great buy for quality skincare products.  They are available at Walgreens, CVS, and Walmart.

Carmex sent me a nice package with a full size 5.5 oz healing lotion, 4 oz Healing Cream, and a smaller bottle of each.

The Healing Lotion and Healing Cream have something like a baby powder scent to them.  Very pleasant and comforting.  The Healing Lotion says it contains Aloe and Vitamin E.  The Healing Cream is used to “repair your driest roughest skin” according to the bottle.  It also says it contains 9 healing ingredients.

The lotion rubbed in easily and quickly into my skin.  The light, fresh, baby powderish scent was pretty and not over powering.  Both the healing lotion and healing cream are white in color.  I like that the cap is at the bottom of the bottle.  It helps the lotion to come out without much struggle.  They are flip cap and easy to open.

I get dry skin over the fall and winter.  Both the healing lotion and cream were comforting on my dry skin.  My skin did not feel greasy at all after application.

You can find Carmex on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/carmexlipbalm
and on twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/Carmex you might want to follow.  Right now they’re holding a “sticks in a blanket” giveaway!

Protect your hair, AVEENO nourish shampoo/conditioner giveaway 2 winners 9/14: CLOSED

Patrick Melville is a Celebrity hair stylist. Patrick has teamed up with AVEENO and Recyclebank  to offer some tips on keeping your hair looking great during and after the summer weather.

Some tips Patrick offers up:

1.  “When going to the beach those final days of summer, apply any of the AVEENO® NOURISH+ conditioner throughout hair to protect hair from the UV rays. In addition, always bring a hat or scarf to cover hair from the sun.  Coming out of the pool or ocean, make sure to rinse hair well with fresh water and apply some NOURISH+ conditioner and comb evenly through the hair.  This will remove the chlorine or salt from the hair and put moisture back in.”

2.  “After the hot summer, you want to cut off those beach/pool frizzy ends. Shampoo and Condition hair with AVEENO® NOURISH+ line to restore hair vitality and elasticity.  If you color your hair, it is time to go a little warmer with your color. Try using AVEENO® LIVING COLOR™ to help restore shine back into the hair that was lifted out from the UV rays during those summer months.”

3.  “Now that we’ve finally beat the humidity, hair will be a little smoother with less texture and you will be adding more shine to your blowdry. Coming out of summer, I always feel hair length should be brought up the neckline a bit. This also helps rejuvenate the hair after those summer months.”

I know I’ve been considering my skin care a lot more this summer but I honestly didn’t put as much thought into my hair.  I think Patrick Melville has offered some great tips.  I love my AVEENO shampoo and conditioner.  I had used the AVEENO active naturals shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair when I  first got my highlights for the summer. I normally get highlights in the summer and felt that the blond highlights stayed brighter throughout the whole summer than the last few years.

I’m competing in the Cheap Sally "Bring Home the Bacon" contest, what incentive would you like?

Starting Sept. 1st, I’ll be requesting votes for me in the Cheap Sally Bring Home the Bacon Contest. I was thinking of running a contest to make people aware that I’m competing and I’m looking for votes.

I just know there will be many competing in this contest. Bloggers with blogs that are way bigger than mine. What prize incentive would be interesting to you?

I was thinking of a cash prize via paypal…like maybe $200 IF I win but a smaller consolation prize for 1 winner out of those who voted just to show my appreciation maybe a smaller value gift card like maybe a $20 amazon gift card or something along those lines.

What do you think?

Mistura 6 in 1 beauty solution essential kit review and giveaway 8/30 US/Can–CLOSED

Mistura’s 6 in 1 Beauty Solution is a unique beauty product. There is one shade available for all skin tones. It’s hypoallergenic, fragrance free and anit-inflammatory. The 6 in 1 solution is an illuminating powder that can be blended into your skin for full coverage to hide those fine lines, blemishes, and uneven skin tone.

Mistura’s 6 in 1 Beauty solution can be used for all over coverage, cheeks, eye shadow, and even on your lips! All Mistura beauty products have a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

If you are new to Mistura Beauty like I was, a great kit to try is the Essential kit.  It gives you a smaller size of the Mistura 6 in 1 solution, Illuminada moisturizer, vitamin E lip balm,  and a travel Kabuki brush for $28.99 (CA).

I had the opportunity to try the essential kit for myself.  My first thought was, “I don’t know, I know this comes in one color for all skin tones but I have fair skin, is it going to look right on my skin?”  To me it looked kind of tan for my skin tone.  The kit recommends applying the Illuminada moisturizer first.   The Illuminada moisturizer benefits as stated on the site are: protects from free radicals and premature aging, prevents skin dryness, and leaves your skin with a glow.

This is me without make up (sorry) and before applying any of the products.

I then applied the Illuminada moisturzier.  I didn’t notice much of a difference visually.  But it did feel great on my skin.

Then I blended in the 6 in 1 beauty solution. The front view I had didn’t really show up well as far as showing the difference.  I think this side angle shows how it blended into my skin more.  You can notice a slightly tanner appearance to my skin tone.  So it didn’t really match up with my normal skin tone but it did look like a nice sun kissed look in my opinion.

To apply the 6 in 1 to the lips, the directions recomment applying some type of lip balm like the Vitamin E balm provided in the kit.  I then used the kabuki brush to tap the solution onto my lips. This was the result.

It was a very natural, neutral tone.  A little bit pearlized in appearance.  I think this close up of my lips also shows how the 6 in 1 covered some of the freckles on my face as well as some of my fine lines I have near my mouth.  It really evened out my skin tone.

You can find Mistura Beauty on twitter: @Mistura , on Facebook, and Youtube
