Love Inside the Silence Book Tour & Giveaway

Love Inside the Silence by A.L. Long Genre: Romantic Suspense

Everything can change in a split second, before you can take your next breath. Willow Parker had everything going for her, a future she dreamed of ever since she was a little girl would soon to become reality. It’s funny how things can change in a split second, at the drop of a hat. I, for one, never thought that I would be a victim of those crazy idioms, but unfortunately, no one can predict what the future will bring or what will happen from one minute to the next. For me, my fate was decided five years ago. It was an unforeseen tragedy, one that no one deserved, especially me. How was I to know that changing my daily routine would have an outcome that would leave me in silence for the rest of my adult life? One thing I didn’t count on was facing the man who changed my life forever.

Award winning Author of the Independent Press Award and NYC Big Book Award. A.L. Long is also the recipient of the National Indie Excellence Award. My love for writing began several years ago after an early retirement from a demanding job that I loved, but also hated because it consumed so much of my time. Now, I am able to focus my time on what I love. Writing romance has been a life long dream and to actually say that I am a published author is beyond what I would have ever expected. Even though some may say I have a little naughtiness in my books, I look at it as an added bonus for my readers. After all what is a romance book without a little spice. When I am not writing, I enjoy spending time with friends either at home or out on the town. Mostly, I enjoy a relaxing night at home where I can enjoy a glass of wine in the company of a good book. There was something different about her. I couldn’t put my finger on it. I usually had no problem judging
people at first glance, but not her. She was out of her element, that was evident, but her shy disposition
was refreshing. More than that was the way she looked. If down-to-earth had a singular meaning, she
would be it. She had a natural beauty that only a handful of women possessed. Her hair was a soft
brown laced with light blonde stands, sun kissed if I had to guess, which framed her flawless face. It
wasn’t her face or her smile that got my attention, but the brilliant color of sapphire that stared back at
me when I entered the elevator.

A lot had changed during my absence. There were faces I didn’t recognize. Even the security guards
were new, and I certainly would have remembered the beautiful women standing beside me. Shit, new
people? No need to panic yet. Hopefully, there wouldn’t be any new faces once I got to the fortieth
floor. The last thing I needed was to try to explain why I didn’t know their names. I was overthinking. My
nerves were getting the best of me. Sawyer would have said something when we spoke this morning
about making the switch. Having a twin brother had its rewards. If it hadn’t been for Sawyer, I might not
have had a company to come back to. Thankfully, he knew enough about investments to step in until my
time at Men’s Central was done. It was the worst kind of torture.

To this day, not one day goes by that I don’t think about the woman I hit. Even though they withheld her
name from me, I would do whatever I could to pay her back for what I did. That was, if I ever found her. I
shouldn’t have gotten behind the wheel. It was dumb and irresponsible. Looking back, I knew I could
have killed her.

Dreams and reality perform a captivating pas de deux in this tale of legacy and longing. A lyrical and original fantasy that, like its heroine, has the soul of a dancer. – Adi Rule, author of STRANGE SWEET SONG Goodreads * Amazon

In retrospect, I probably should have realized a lot earlier that I was meant to be a writer. Even as early as kindergarten, I struggled to pay attention in class because the outside world was just not as interesting as what was going on in my head. By that time, I had already made my storytelling debut (“Squirm the Worm,” delivered at age three) and had spent countless hours playing make-believe with my 284 stuffed animals, every one of whom had a name and detailed backstory. Though I quickly learned to pay attention (or at least look like I was paying attention) during school hours, I retained a tendency to daydream and a love of stories. When I left high school to attend the Sunderman Conservatory at Gettysburg College, I learned to translate both emotional and programatic content into music. Now, as an exam prep and college essay tutor, I have the time and flexibility to really dig into fiction again. My work has appeared online and in print in such venues as Timeless Tales Magazine and Quantum Fairy Tales. Website * Facebook * Twitter * Instagram * Amazon * Goodreads

There’s food. They throw a few crusts of stale bread into the cage and laugh as we fight over
them. A dirty, stubbled knee smashes into my face as I reach into the melee with one hand and
shove aside a frail old woman with the other. My hand closes spasmodically around a scrap of
bread but, as I bring the prize to my lips, another girl tries to snatch it from me.
I jerk away and bite her grasping fingers, lips pulled back from my teeth. She glares at me and
rubs her hand, like I’ve done something rude, like she has every right to my food. I glare back
and chew as slowly as possible, both to make it last and to rub it in the thief’s face. I hope they
sell her soon. She’s been a steadily growing pain in my ass for weeks now.
I’m not sure what it is that annoys me so much, there’s just something about her. Every time I
see her stupid, pouting face, I want to slap it. I try to remind myself that I don’t know her, she’s
probably a nice person—and anyway, why shouldn’t she pout? We gave up hope of escape
long ago. Most of us don’t even bother looking beyond the bars of our cage. We’re broken,
hopeless, wretched scraps of flesh and bone. If ever there was a situation to warrant a good
pout, this is it.
It’s no use—I hate her. I hate every inch of her, from her stupid blond head to her once no doubt
perfectly pedicured toes.
She used to be pretty. But now her long golden hair is no longer gold so much as a dull sand
color, almost brown, and it hangs in greasy tangles around her face.
Not that I can point fingers. My hair looks—and smells—like something you might find smeared
on the bottom of your shoe. Several weeks’ worth of grime has crusted on my body and raised
angry, putrid rashes in the creases of my elbows, armpits, everywhere skin touches skin.
But at least I’m alive. A few days ago there was rain, and the next morning one of the girls
began to cough and shiver. Last night the guards pulled her corpse from the cage and left it by
the roadside. Our only response was to take advantage of the extra leg room.
The giddy surge of relief lasted no more than a day. New aches and pains arrived to take the
place of old cramps, and now we shove and twist against each other just as violently as before.
Another inch or two and I could unbend my knees. Another foot and I could lean against the
bars.
We need more space. I consider the pouter, eyeing her emaciated form, and smile as thunder
rumbles in the distance.

Gazing down the almost empty highway toward town he swept a hand
over his lips and jawline a second time and squinted his eyes. Coming down
the road in the growing twilight was a pickup truck. A Dodge pickup truck.
As it approached he thought about throwing up a thumb and hitching a
ride. Maybe it was headed for Amarillo. Maybe it was time to take the
sheriff’s advice. Maybe it was time to leave Ballard for good.
Funny how shit happens. How half-baked plans get tossed out the
window.
The brown Dodge slowed and swerved toward him. For a moment he
was bathed in low beams before the pickup slid to a stop a couple of feet in
front of him. Standing there, Lenny watched the passenger side front door
window slide down. In the semi-light he had to step closer to see who was
sitting behind the wheel.
“Hello, cuz.”
A voice he recognized. Even after all these long years away.
“Hello, Miguel. Good to see you.”
Miguel Luiz Sanchez. His mother’s sister’s oldest son. Same age as he
was. The oldest of four boys and three sisters. But that was twenty years
ago. He had no idea who was alive today. Who was dead.
“Come on,” Miguel grunted, waving a hand for Lenny to open the door
and get in.
“Where are we going?” he asked.
“Been in town for two weeks, cuz. Getting drunk and getting into fights.
The whole family knows you’re back in town. Time to clean up. Dry out.
Time to go home.”
Time to go home. Like a hammer blow right between his eyes. Time to
go home. Home? Here in Ballard? After all these years? After what
happened in the past?
