The white windowless van sat at the corner of Union Street and King Street with the summer
heat beating down on it. The casing of metal made the temperature rise inside the van and
Newcastle, Australia was showing no signs of clouds to lighten their misery.
A bead of sweat ran down the cheek of the man sitting in the driver’s seat of the van as he
looked diligently out the front window. The man took a long and slow drag off the cigarette
sitting in his fingers and the smoke swirled around his face. The blue eyes were unwavering in
their task and the blond hair on his head was a tousled mess, much like the surfer boys out on
the beaches all summer.
“Come on Marty, just crack the window.” said a voice from the back seat, not getting the blond
man to look back at him.
“Shut up, Terry. You will have your chance to be on the street soon.” said Marty, taking another
drag from the cigarette. “You boys know the deal on this one just like the rest.”
“No problem. Just give us the word.” said the man sitting in the passenger seat with gritted teeth
and a toothpick between them.
“Tommy, you ready for this?” asked Marty
“No problem, boss. Just give me the word.” he said, pulling the slide on his .45 caliber Smith
and Wesson handgun before placing it in his belt.
“He’s a killer if you ask me, Marty.“ said Charlie with a wide grin covering his face.
“Ok, boys. Let’s gear up.” said Marty, pulling himself out of the front seat and moving to the
back of the van changing into his outfit like the rest.
The men wore a coordinated outfit of black shoes, black pants, white shirt, black tie, and black
jacket. Pulling the rifles off the wall of the van, the AK-47 was the weapon of choice. The older
models were the ones that they could get their hands on due to the strict gun laws in Australia,
but the Soviet era assault rifles were more than enough for the job they had at hand.
Sliding on the plastic masks that covered the whole head, the members of the team took on the
resemblances of the musical group the Beatles.
Marty placed his hand on the door and started his countdown with the face of John looking back
at the others. “In three, two, one, GO!”
The strong hand gripped down hard on the lever and pulled the door to the side exposing the
four men as they took to the street. Marty followed the others to the corner leaving the side of
the van open and waiting.
Getting to the corner Terry pulled the door to the Midtown National Bank open and let the others
funnel in as fast as possible before closing the door behind them and standing guard.
“Get the fuck down!” screamed Marty as he fired the AK47 into the air dropping down all the
people into the room as well as a shower of plaster from the ceiling.
The butt end of Tommy’s AK47 found its mark striking down on the back of the head of the
guard that was standing beside the door just as he had each time they had come into the bank
previously to learn the positioning of all the players that worked here each day.
“Ninety seconds, boys!” yelled out Terry, looking at an oversized watch on his wrist.

Ruins
on Stone Hill
Heroes
of Ravenford Book 1
by
F. P. Spirit
Genre:
YA Epic Fantasy

It
has been one hundred and fifty years since the end of the Thrall
Wars, when the four dread Thrall Masters rained destruction down on
the land of Thac. The world has been relatively quiet since, but dark
things have started to rise around the little town of
Ravenford.

The
town’s only hope lay in four newcomers: a fearless young warrior with
blades of fire, an elven wizard as deadly to his friends as hisenemies, a cynical halfling who might be an assassin, and a quiet
gnome whose very touch can heal. Together they set out to face the
creatures of darkness. Yet they soon find they are facing more than
just a few rogue monsters, for a greater force lurks behind them
all.

From
eerie woods to underground caves to haunted ruins, they encounter
terrifying monsters, creatures of the night, and demonic sorcery. Can
the young heroes stand against the forces of darkness, or will they
too fall prey to the evil that threatens to destroy Ravenford?

F.P.
Spirit has always loved fantasy. From the moment he received his very
first copy of Lord of the Rings back in high school, he was hooked.
Today, somewhere between work and family, F. P. manages to write
sword and sorcery fantasy fiction.

His
novels,Ruins on Stone Hill, Serpent Cult, Dark Monolith, and Princess
of Lanfor are the first four books in the series Heroes of Ravenford.
The series chronicles the adventures of a band of young heroes in the
dangerous world of Thac. F.P. is currently working on the fifth book
in the Heroes of Ravenford series, The Baron’s Heart, to be released
in 2018.

Seth rifled through the bugbears’ belongings, looking for anything of use. Unfortunately,
there was nothing. Abruptly, he heard a shout in the hallway.
“Come here!” the voice cried. It was followed by heavy thudding. It swiftly grew louder, then
receded.
Seth rushed to the door and opened it a crack. He saw the golem at the end of the hallway,
down where the pantry was. He heard a voice yell out. “Knock down the door! Kill them all!”
Telvar! It had to be the wizard. Seth scanned the hall, but could not see anyone. Either he
was around the corner or—he was invisible! That isn’t good. If this wizard could make himself invisible, then he was far more
experienced than Glo. In a straight out duel, Telvar would easily kill him. Their only chance was
to take this wizard by surprise. Luckily, surprise was Seth’s specialty.
Bang! The sound reverberated down the hall.
The golem’s trying to break into the pantry! Seth had to hurry. He pulled out a grey cloak
from his pack and swiftly wrapped it around him. The color was close to the walls of the keep,
and would help him blend into the background.
Bang! There was the sound again.
The door will not hold long. Seth crept out into the hall and down toward the pantry. The
banging continued, now accompanied by the cracking of wood.
Seth strained his ears, hoping to hear the wizard’s voice again. If I can just pinpoint
Telvar’s location…
A disembodied voice cried out, “Harder! Harder!”
The wizard was definitely nearby. Hopefully he would remain focused on the golem, but
Seth had to be careful. He would only get one chance at this, and he needed to make it count.
Bang!
Seth reached the corner. The golem stood in front of the pantry door, hammering away at
it. It was a mindless creature and would strictly follow its master’s commands. Seth halted,
straining his ears for any sign of the wizard.
Bang! Crack!
The golem smashed through the upper part of the pantry door. Seth heard Titan’s voice
from inside. “Go, Lloyd! I’ll hold him off until you get down.”
Then a disembodied voice screamed right in front of him, “Kill them all!”
Got him! Venom dagger already in his hand, Seth inched forward. He needed to be within
quick stabbing distance to be sure.
He heard Titan yell. “Go, Lloyd! I’ll hold it off until you get down.”
“But Titan…” He heard Lloyd protest.
There was a momentary pause and then Titan yelled, “Now go!”
Seth tried his best to remain detached, but it was difficult. These were the first friends he
had in, well, ever. The stone golem kicked in the bottom of the door. Wood went flying
everywhere. He chanced a quick peek inside and saw Titan, shield up in front of her, mace in
her other hand.
Now that’s brave.
The golem inserted its bulk into the doorway and blocked his view. Seth wrenched his eyes
away and listened again for the wizard.
Where was he? He forced himself to ignore the crashing and banging coming from the
pantry. There! He could hear heaving breathing right in front of him.
A loud clang resounded in the pantry. That sounded like stone on metal! A cold chill ran up
Seth’s spine.
The breathing began to move. Seth followed.A second clang came from the pantry, and then all sounds stopped. Telvar’s voice
screamed out—right in front of him, “Don’t let them escape! Go after them! Down the basement!
Kill them all!”
Seth had caught a glimpse of Telvar when he burst in on them in the lab. He estimated the
mage to be about five and a half feet tall. With that in mind, he guessed where his heart should
be. Bracing himself, he stabbed at an upward angle as hard as he could.
He was rewarded with the feeling of his dagger sliding into something. That was followed
by a shrill scream. Seth ignored the cry and invoked the dagger’s magic with a single word,
“Venenum.”

“Do you have a reservation?” A man in a penguin suit asks from behind a podium. I glance over his shoulder,
and the inside is formal with white linen and soft candles. It echoes one sentiment, romantic.
No Dylan. No Dylan. No Dylan. This chant isn’t working as images of his smile, his eyes and a low rate hum
ensue. The one I get every time I think about him. Every time I see him. It happens more frequently. This will
not help.
Before Asher married Jazz the three of us did everything together. Then our three became two. It felt odd
without Asher at first. Over the past year, it became something we did. Every Saturday. Movies. Museums.
Concerts.
Missing our third wheel this time alone feels intimate. And although our secret meetings aren’t really a secret
we have never had a candlelight dinner. But this is the address he sent by text this morning.
“Ma’am.” His annoyed glare bores into me.
“Ah, Jameson, Dylan Jameson.” He scans a list under a reading lamp, my stomach’s in knots.
“Dylan, what are you doing?” I whisper searching the room for his familiar face.
“I want to celebrate your birthday.” His silky voice holds a challenge. I stumble back connecting with his chest.
“We shouldn’t.” Dylan steps closer planting his large hands on my hips.
“Of course we should.”
“Sir.” The suit insists.
“Give us a second.” Dylan turns me to face him as he scans my body from head to toe. A singe of heat
accompanies his roaming appraisal of my black dress paired with silver heels.
“Yuki. Join me. Or I could celebrate your birthday alone.” I see his smile before his head falls.
“How do you plan to celebrate my birthday without me?” I punch him in the arm. “You don’t have to do this.” I
glance again over his broad shoulders at the impatient suit.
“I know how important twenty-seven is to you.”
I don’t buy luck. However, on my seventh birthday, Momma adopted me. I graduated college at seventeen.
Twenty-seven looks as promising as the others. This is the downside of knowing him for most of my life.
There are very few secrets between us. I stare up into his blue eyes, and I shiver.
“We could dine upstairs,” he offers.
Taking a deep breath. Upstairs means fewer eyes, we would be alone. Alone, alone. But this is Dylan, we’ve
spent time alone before. I roll my shoulders back and close the space between us.
“What’s upstairs?”
“My penthouse suite.”

The Enigma of a Widow Book Tour & Giveaway

The
Enigma of a Widow
The
Widows of Aristocracy Book 2
by
Linda Rae Sande
Genre:
Historical Regency Romance

Having
lost her husband in the Battle of Ligny, Lady Lydia Barrymore is
determined to resume her work for the Foreign Office when her
mourning period is over. She’s spent a year solving puzzles and
assembling dissected maps to maintain her skills. Her first
assignment has her perplexed, though – do what she must to help a
fellow operative recover his sanity. Although she finds the man
rather beautiful, Sir Donald has also proved most annoying.
Newly
knighted Adonis Truscott returned from the Continent with a tendency
to get lost in his thoughts. His frequent episodes of staring into
space have his sister claiming he’s a candidate for Bedlam – and he’s
not about to argue. He doesn’t always remember where or when he was
when he recovers, but he remembers he made a promise, and he’s
determined to keep it. A promise to provide protection for Lydia,
whether she wants it or not.
When
a puzzle’s directions require Lydia to solve it with the help of
Adonis, she discovers the man harbors secrets that may be impossible
to reveal. With her own sanity in jeopardy – a year-long mystery
involving her late husband may be more annoying and dangerous than an
errant knight – Lydia will have to piece together a solution that
suits them both in The Enigma of a Widow.

The thought of viewing artwork created more than a millennia ago excited Lydia. That
someone had the skills to cut and carve marble into such detailed works of art meant the
ancestors of humanity weren’t the barbaric creatures she had been warned of whilst still in the
schoolroom in Merriweather Manor.
For every Spartan, there had been an Athenian, after all.
Viewing statues of mostly naked men would have been nearly impossible if there were too
many others with her in the Gallery. On a day such as this, she had the room to herself.
She didn’t exactly study the statues, but surreptitiously surveyed them as she slowly
walked around each one. She found them intriguing. Men nowadays weren’t so very different
from those of two- or three-thousand years ago, she decided, although she only had experience
with the two from current times. Perhaps the Greeks were more beautiful. Youthful, mayhap. Or
perhaps they only depicted younger subjects because it was difficult to carve wrinkles into
marble.
The reclining man before her was definitely youthful, his body barely muscled, his face
relaxed as if he were sleeping. She could almost feel his soft breaths as he lay there, one arm
raised above his head and angled so its hand was atop his curly hair whilst the other was bent
with its hand resting beneath his chin. He wasn’t entirely naked but wore a cape tossed over one
shoulder, and the folds of a skirt were strewn about his mid-section. His feet sported sandals with
leather ties wrapped about his thick ankles.
Awareness of another’s presence in the gallery had the hairs on the back of her neck
reacting.
The sensation of a soft breath wafted over her shoulder again, this time bearing the
slightest hint of sandalwood and spice cologne. Stiffening where she stood, Lydia realized
someone was standing directly behind and to her left. A man, no doubt, given the scent of his
cologne. She was about to put voice to a complaint, but he put voice to a most audacious claim
before she had a chance.
“I’ve been told I look exactly like him,” the male voice whispered, almost in her ear.Lydia carefully stepped to the right and turned slightly, amazed to see that, yes, the intruder
did indeed look exactly like Adonis. Or Endymion sleeping on Mount Latmos, if one
remembered the label mounted next to the block of marble. He was also impeccably dressed in a
superfine navy topcoat, an elaborately embroidered waistcoat in red and gold, and buckskin
breeches that, at the moment, left absolutely nothing to the imagination as far as his muscular
thighs and the bit of anatomy that was located just above them. A quick glance at his tasseled
boots, and Lydia was sure she could see her reflection. One of his gloved hands was pressed onto
the top of a cane handle decorated in ornately-patterned silver plate while the other held what
appeared to be a sketchpad.
“You do, in fact,” she murmured, her gaze darting back and forth between the statue and
his living twin. “Are you related, perhaps?” she asked with an arched eyebrow.
“My mother must have thought so. She named me Adonis,” he replied with an equally
arched eyebrow.

Seventeen-year-old
Daphne Bowman, a bookish drama nerd in public school, might never

together seven years earlier.

When Daphne uncovers
Emily and Jason’s bucket list–a list comprised of their “Top

someone. The one person who might actually get what she’s going
through and who might not think it’s silly that she wants to complete
the list, is also someone she’s never spoken to–Oliver Pagano.
Throwing caution to the wind, Daphne sends Oliver a Facebook message
that will come to change the course of both of their senior
years–and maybe their entire lives.
