Without such much as a gasp she sat up with a wild look in her eyes and looked around the room
frantically. I stayed in the chair watching as she looked around and then down at her wound. Finally, her
golden eyes found mine.
“Empress.”
“I’m here,” I answered, going to her side. “It’s good you’re awake. Are you in any pain?”
Her eyes searched mine, like she was looking for an answer for a question that I didn’t ask. She shook her
head. A slight grimace on her face was the only sign she was in pain. “You fixed me.”
“Your injuries weren’t that bad.”
“Thanks.”
“You can thank me by returning me to my planet,” was my firm response.
“I saved your life, too. Shouldn’t we be even?”
She was right, though I wasn’t giving in. I just needed some time to figure out how to get back home. “I
am the Empress. My people depend on me. Can I at least call and tell them I’m alive?”
“Fine, but you cannot tell them where you are.”
“And where am I?”
She held my eyes. “The Nirvana.”
I knew the name, Nirvana. It was a ship of criminals that were wanted by the Authority for a long list of
crimes including stealing and murder. I swallowed hard. What in the universe did the Nirvana want with
me? My heart pounded, and I took deep breaths to calm myself down. Don’t show fear. Get word to
Valinor. Bristow can figure out where I am. “Your reputation precedes you.”
“Then you know just how lethal we are.” She shifted like she was uncomfortable. “Let’s get to the
bridge.”
“You should rest.” I didn’t know why I was still concerned about her wellbeing, but I was.

Stjepan Varesevac-Cobets was born on 12 September 1965 in Split, Croatia. He

lives and works in Kastel Sucurac, where he finished his elementary
and secondary schooling.

At a very young age, he started reading and loved it because, through
books, he traveled to places he could never visit in person. As a
child, he loved fairy tales and adventure but later discovered other
genres. When he found a Jules Verne book in the library, he became
fascinated by science fiction. He has been writing poetry for fifteen
years and has started writing science fiction. Lately, he has also
written children’s fairy tales and fables.

He has published, in Croatia, “An Opened Heart” in 2002, “The
Sleepy Way” in 2005, and “Love” in 2006. On Amazon he

As Arn observed, thick smoke gushed from the front of the car and small flames appeared off
them, engulfing the front of the car. One hundred yards from the place where he stood, huge
flames surrounded a parachute that soon disappeared into the inferno. The car fell into a dense
crown of trees and disappeared from his sight.
Using tangled vines, Arn descended from the top of the large tree where he rested and headed
for the crash site. He knew the person injured in the interior of the car would need his help. As
he approached the crash site, the unpleasant smell of burned plastic and thick smoke filled his
nostrils. The front of the car was destroyed and on fire. The entire interior was filled with thick,
white smoke. Arn reached the vehicle and tried to get inside, but he hit his nose on a strange
transparent material. He looked within. In the thick smoke, he perceived a woman’s hand. Heat
flapped at his face from the burning front of the car. He had to pull out the woman or she would
to death.
Arn tried to break the strange, transparent material by hand but it did not crack. He needed
something hard to break it, so he looked at his surrounding. He saw a stone, picked it up, and
struck the wall with it. To his surprise, the partition burst into a thousand, small, rectangular
pieces. Arn cleared the sharp edges and tried to pull the woman out of the car. However,
something was tying her to the seat. With his hand, he felt a belt around her chest. He pulled a
knife from his belt and cut the strap.

“In that she is like every other woman,” retorted Julius Caesar as he extinguished another torch
from the wall.
“I heard your aide imply you know something about the subject of women.”
Julius Caesar extinguished another torch, “Women and men! If I fancy someone for my bed, I am
never refused!”
“Never?”
Julius Caesar met her eyes, “Not once, not ever!”
“I may prove your boast wrong.”“No! You won’t!” flirted the general as he extinguished the last torch in the room and put his arm

She padded down the stairs as quietly as she could, to find all the lights out. Sawyer must have gone to
bed after cleaning up the kitchen. She felt a pang of guilt for ruining his surprise dinner.
She turned to go back up the steps and ran into a wall of hot, chiseled abs and chest muscles—Sawyer.
She placed her palms on his pecs, trying to steady herself, but the feel of his bare skin only knocked her
off balance again. He wrapped his arms around her body, pulling her into his.
“You okay, Lorna?” Sawyer’s voice sounded gruff and sexy, like he’d just woken up.
She tried to pull herself free from his hold, but he only tightened his arms around her waist.
“Yes, I’m fine.”
She didn’t mean to sound so put off, but she did. She gave up struggling in his arms and decided just to
enjoy it. She hadn’t been this close to Sawyer in months and her body was feeling tingly and overheated

touching her and kissing her to talk. Talking could wait. Besides, they would probably end up fighting
and he would never finish what he started.
He took her hand and pulled her into the kitchen.
“Sit,” he commanded, pulling out a chair for her.
Lorna didn’t care to put up a struggle. He had completely stripped her of any fight that she had left.
He pulled the pan of lasagna from the refrigerator and filled two plates. He lit the candles that were on the
table and poured them both a glass of wine.
“So, we are going to sit here and have dinner, in our underwear.” Lorna looked him up and down, her
eyes resting on his rather impressive bulge that told her she affected him more than he was letting on.
“Well, we could eat naked, but I don’t think that would be a good idea. You must be starving after your
long day. So, food first, then we can discuss you getting naked.”
