AVEENO Pure Renewal Dry Shampoo review and sweepstakes announcement

I love being an AVEENO ambassador.  It’s great to be working with a company that’s researching and bringing positive programs to the community like the “Be an Active Natural” program, and awarding grants to people who are making a difference.

I mentioned in a previous AVEENO post that AVEENO recently introduced more new products to their line up.  One of which is the AVEENO Pure Renewal dry shampoo.

This dry shampoo uses seaweed extract which balances and revives hair.  It removes excess oil and impurities from your hair in between washes, while also adding volume to your hair.  It’s also sulfate free.  It was developed by AVEENO’s team of scientists and celebrity hair stylist, Patrick Melville.
Within the last year or so I discovered the world of dry shampoos and it changed my beauty routine.  My problem is this, If I don’t shampoo and condition every day my hair gets really oily.  But if I do shampoo every day my scalp gets dry and itchy. I hated the oily limp hair when I didn’t shampoo plus it seemed to encourage breakouts on my skin along the hair line.  Dry shampoos are a great way for me to keep my hair looking fresh and clean without stressing out my scalp. Now I shampoo every other day and use dry shampoo in between those days.
I took a picture of one of my days with no shampoo.  You can see how my hair is a bit oily and starts sticking together
The AVEENO Pure Renewal dry shampoo has a great fresh scent to it.  Kinda smells like I just got out of the shower. Just shake the can and spray the dry shampoo onto your hair.  I make sure to spray along my part and lift up a few sections of hair and spray there too.  When it first goes on it’s kind of a white powdery look.
You need to brush the shampoo through your hair.  I also take and work my fingers through it to kind of work the dry shampoo into my hair.
I start working it through and you can see how it starts to absorb.  You can also see how my hair starts to separate and I don’t have the lumped strands like I did in the first picture.  I also add a little more lift to my hair.  For me it takes a little working and brushing to get it in so my hair isn’t powdery looking anymore.  This great feeling in my hair lasts throughout the day.
This is a useful product to have on hand for anyone that has oily hair like mine or if  your hair just need some refreshing in between shampoos.

Also AVEENO wanted me to let you know to keep your eyes peeled for the Aug. 27 issue of People Magazine (available on stands Aug. 17).  In that issue there will be a page about the new AVEENO sweepstakes.  1 winner will win a trip for 2 to NYC for a spa weekend.  1500 others will win a full size AVEENO Pure Renewal dry shampoo (yes the one I reviewed here).  You’ll be able to enter the sweepstakes starting Aug. 17 here: http://www.summerrenewal.com/
That’s not all AVEENO has a nice prize pack to give to one LuvSavingMoney.info reader too!

Even Olympians use AVEENO: giveaway

I really get into the Olympics.  Especially the summer Olympics.  I love watching the opening ceremonies.  I feel a sense of pride when one of of ours brings home a medal.  I marvel at the speed, strength, talent, and agility. The London Olympic games starts Friday July 27.  I’m not normally much of a tv watcher but you can bet I”ll be grabbing the tv any chance I get once the Olympics start.

Even though the Olympians seem almost super human at times, they still have some of the same skin issues we do.  Olympians Mariya Koroleva and Mary Killman of the US synchronized swimming team talk about how AVEENO Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer helps their red, blotchy “pool face” as they call it.

By the way, LOVE their bathing suits.  So Cute!
We can’t all be Olympians but we can still treat our skin like they do. Get gold medal worth skin with AVEENO products like:
Ultra Calming Makeup Removing Wipes which is one of AVEENO’s newest products
and guess what?  AVEENO is offering all these products to one lucky Luv Saving Money Reader

Celebrity Hairstylist, Patrick Melville answers hair questions: Giveaway Included

Just like the informative Q & A session with celebrity dermatologist, Dr Jessica Wu, AVEENO Ambassadors like me had a chance to as celebrity hair stylist Patrick Melville some questions regarding hair care.  Here is the the Q & A’s.

1.  What cut will create the most volume for fine, long hair? What should we ask for at the salon?
“The cut that is best for fine long hair is a cut that has long layers … some softer shorter pieces around the face. Also add a sweeping fringe that sweeps to the side and will create a lot of versatility and give hair maximum volume. Products are key such as lightweight volumizing spray at the root because as you know, volume comes from the root. Be careful and make sure to tell your stylist to keep the layers long as layers can also thin the hair if too short.”
2. I have long black hair that used to be shiny and silky, now it has lost some of its luster. How can I get it back?
“The best way to get back luster is to use the Aveeno Nourish+ Shine Shampoo and Conditioner along with the Aveeno Living Color Shine Glaze which can be used on all hair types. This will give you maximum shine and close the cuticle and boost the life back into your hair.”
3.  I’d love to hear Patrick Melville’s specifics on haircare for extensions and haircare for mixed hair(like hair for half black / half hispanic, hispanic hair care problems)
“The best way to treat extensions is to make sure they do not stay in too long or grow out too much as this will put stress on your own hair when using styling tools. Best way to take care of them is to be sure to condition the every time you shampoo and to use the Aveeno Nourish+ Leave in Conditioner before styling. This will make the extensions more manageable and will lock in moisture. This also applies to African American hair or Hispanic hair as it tends to be drier by nature and more coarse. Like your skin, when its dry you need to apply more moisture. The leave in conditioner locks in moisture and helps elasticity to lessen breakage.”
4.  I’d love to get the scoop from Patrick about how to make thin hair look thicker. Mine just gets super stringy as it growns longer. It’s awful!
“Make sure you trim your hair on a regular basis and do not use any type of oil or silicone based products. You want to use a volumzing spray and apply a lightweight styling glaze to damp hair before blowdrying. Do not overblowdry and when you are finished use the Aveeno Nourish+ Style Fortifying Hairspray to create fullness and body, making hair swell and look thicker.”
5.  Does Patrick have any hairstyle tips to get women over 40 out of the hair “frump”? Maybe some tips on how to update a look. Most images and tips I get are for young women, so I’d love some for “older” women.
“As you may know, women over 40 do not have to cut off their hair to look less frumpy. I suggest cutting the hair to the collarbone with some longer layers. This will give the hair some energy and still allow you to be very versatile with styling options. For example this cut allows you to put your hair back into a low chignon or a French twist. This will still give you that soft sexy look without having to cut off your locks while still being youthful and feminine.”
