The creator of Concrete Minerals, Emily, spent years working in the natural cosmetics industry.  I asked Emily if she would mind answering a few questions for you, my loyal readers and here’s what she had to say:

1. How/why did you start your handmade business?

After working in the music industry for several years, I found myself working with some incredible companies in the natural beauty industry. This was where I found my passion in mineral makeup. I decided to launch a company that would embrace the incredible benefits of mineral makeup, yet cater to a trendier, younger generation of women looking to explore a healthier alternative to standard makeup without sacrificing the pigmentation and quality that they love.

2. What is your favorite item to create and why?

Our Electric Eye Primer. It’s such a unique, hand-crafted formula that excludes all filler ingredients and preservatives and manages to rival several of the pro primers on the market today. We’ve received so many compliments and rave reviews, that each time I make it, I feel an incredible sense of pride.

3. Do you have any future goals or plans for your business that my readers would like to know about?

We do have SEVERAL new releases within the next few months, beginning this month with the release of a bunch of new mineral eye shadows! I can’t WAIT to share these as well as the new products joining our line in March!

I only recently learned about the Starbucks Rewards Program. I had won a $5 Starbucks gift card on a blog giveaway. I love me some Starbucks so I was really excited about that. Then I saw that you can get free Starbucks drinks and things added to your Starbucks gift card if you register it free with Starbucks rewards. I know you get a free drink on your birthday by registering your card.

Every time you use your registered Starbucks gift card you earn a star. You can start getting rewards with as little as 5 stars. At the 5 star level there are rewards like: Free refill on brewed coffee or tea, free trial offers, and a few other rewards

At the 30 star level you reach gold rewards status. With gold rewards status you get you get a free beverage with every 15 stars you collect, personalized offers and coupons, and a personalized gold card that recognizes you as a gold level rewards customer.

I know there are a number of giveaways out there at any given time for a Starbucks gift cards. I took my $5 Starbucks gc that I won and registered it for free. Now my $5 gc will give me even more.

Even my kids ate them (which is amazing in of itself).  My 8 and 7 year old love the Ultimate Fudge Brownie bar.  My toddler ate some of the Ultimate Cran-Orange bar.

Book Review: The Dragon and the Turtle and link to contest

I had not heard of “The Dragon and the Turtle” books by Donita K. Paul and Evangeline Denmark, prior to this review. I thought it looked like it might e a cute book that the boys would enjoy.

The Dragon and the Turtle is a beautifully illustrated children’s book about friendship. More specifically, about being a true friend. Dragon meets turtle as a stranger but goes above and beyond to help the turtle he met. This of course starts a wonderful friendship.

This story was a very nice story to read to my children. It gave them an idea of what being a true friend should be about. There were also another moral or two tucked into the story. There are questions in the back of the book that you can ask your children once you’ve read the story.

My boys enjoyed the story. The story itself engaged them. The illustrations kept them interested as well.

I believe this book is the first in a series of Dragon and turtle books. There is also “The Dragon and the Turtle Go on Safari”. To go along with these books, Waterbrook Multnomah publishers is having a contests around these books to “send your child on safari”.
