A Better Way To Save: SmartyPig – Luv Saving Money

A Better Way To Save: SmartyPig

I have my own checking account, hubby has his checking account, we have a savings account, I have a 401K through work, hubby has a pension plan, I have a small investment account with Stockpile, which I love but the one thing I didn’t have was my own savings account.

At least 2 or three times year I’ve thought, I really need a savings account or a holiday club or something to save for things like: vacation, Christmas, a certain item I want, etc. But I hesitated. I don’t know why I just did.

Well, my brother is getting married in October. My entire family of 6 will have some part in his wedding: bridesmaid, groomsmen, flower girl, ushers, etc. That means buying dresses/suits for everyone. probably a few pair of dress shoes, getting my hair and nails done, throwing a bridal shower, bridal shower and wedding gifts, so on and so forth. My head started spinning with the expenses we’re about to incur. I really need to put money away.

So I started looking for online savings account. I wanted one I could trust. That was legit, that didn’t charge all kinds of fees, that gave me a reason to let them hold my money.

I actually found SmartyPig when entering sweepstakes. I started looking into it and thought, wow, this is a really good deal. They’re in partnership with SallieMae, they offer 1.75% APY, there’s no fees, FDIC-insured up to the maximum allowed by law, and you set your own financial goals as big or small as you want. You can set a goal for something big like a down payment on a house, a wedding, a new car or something as simple as a new pair of shoes or a trip to an amusement park.

Opening my account was easy, starting my first goal was easy, and there’s no fee to do so. I was able to choose whether I want to fund it monthly or biweekly. I went ahead and did a 2nd smaller goal for the trip to the national aviary we’re planning on doing for our staycation this year.

Once you establish your account you can refer your friends too. You’ll earn $10 for each friend that opens a SmartyPig account and funds it with at least $25. I can only refer people via email though. If you’d like a referral from me just email me at: angwith4 at gmail dot com and I’ll be happy to send you one.
