Like me you may have seen the TV commercials for the OrGreenic Frying Pan. I had heard about the other types of non-stick pans containing PFOAs. Now I wasn’t exactly sure what a PFOA was or why it wasn’t good. I came across some info on the government’s EPA website found here: http://www.epa.gov/oppt/pfoa/pubs/faq.html
The gist of the whole thing is that PFOA are in some of the non-stick materials like Tefelon. PFOAs have been found in both the environment and in the US population at low levels. Studies in lab animals have shown developmental and other adverse effects. You can read more about it and what they are doing about it on the government website post above.
OrGreenic does NOT contain PFOA. It has a coating made from ceramic that is bonded to aluminum. Aluminum heat evenly and doesn’t create “hot spots”. The ceramic let’s you take your cookware right from the stove top straight into the oven if you like. It also has a lifetime warranty.
There’s the OrGreenic 10″ frying pan I received to review. There are instructions on the inside of the packaging telling you how to “season” your cookware before you use it. I followed the directions to do this right off the bat.
Now it tells you that you can cook in the pan without using oil, butter, or grease. I put it right to the test with trying to cook 2 eggs easy over. Um….the non-stick thing didn’t work so well with the eggs.
I had a hard time pulling the egg up off the frying pan. AS you can see, it actually stuck pretty good. Again this is without any cooking spray, butter, or anything else. This was cooking the egg over medium heat. It did work better using a little cooking spray. I then tried to saute some chicken in the frying pan to make a stir fry and that worked out just fine.
This honestly isn’t a bad pan though for cooking if you don’t mind using a little oil or cooking spray. The piece of mind of knowing there are no PFOAs in the pan is enough for me to keep it and use it again. The pan is well made. It’s not too light weight or too heavy. The stay cool handle is also a plus.
