I don’t know about you but flashlights seem to be a hot commodity in our house. It seems no matter how many we have I can never find one when I need it. Why? The kids love to use them. They use them to search for things under their bed or something that slipped under the couch. My youngest son likes to use flashlights when he pretends he’s camping in our living room. The boys will sometimes use them with other pretend play as well. I don’t mind when they use them but PLEASE put it back so we have it in an emergency!
Another issue with our flashlights, the batteries. When I do find one it seems like the battery is just about dead. So when I had the chance to review the Portable Searchlight from Viatek, I said absolutely.
The Portable Searchlight from Viatek is actually a lantern and searchlight in one. This handy little device is great to use in your house, on a camping trip, or in your garage.
You can see that it looks like a lantern. It has a big easy to grip handle on the side. The button you see on the front is the on/off button. Push it once the lantern turns on, push it again the search light turns on, a third time to shut it off. The search light part is located on the “bottom” of the lantern.
This search light has a crank on the side that actually charges it. Spin it quickly for a minute to get 20-30 minutes of light. When you’re ready to use it again, just turn the crank. I took some pics of my youngest son “camping” in the living room with the portable search light.
He had to have “chips” to survive while camping. He said “mommy can my chips be in the picture” lol. I love the versatility of this light. I really LOVE the fact that you don’t have to put batteries in it all the time. It’s bigger than a regular flashlight so it doesn’t get lost in our house. The portable searchlight comes in a number of colors too.
You can adjust the handle on the side (pictured on the left side of the lantern in the picture above) to make it more comfortable to use the searchlight. My only complaint is that the button is pretty stiff. My youngest son would never be able to adjust it himself. I have squeeze it pretty good to push the button in enough to adjust the handle. The light is certainly bright enough to find that earring you dropped on the floor, shed some light on the car engine in your garage, or find your way to a tree at night while camping but it’s not super bright where you can see for half a mile with it. It’s perfect for every day use.
It’s made tough. We’ve already dropped it and it survived a few days in my boys’ bedroom so as far as I’m concerned, I think it’s pretty durable.

This light would be great as an emergency light in the car or wherever you are at. Since it uses LEDs, there is basically no chance of a burned out bulb and since it uses a hand crank for power, there is no chance for dead batteries.
