I love to see my boys reading.  I’m impressed when I see them initiate it themselves.  The school had a Scholastic book fair toward the beginning of the year.  He took his own money in and bought a couple books.  I didn’t even know he was going to do that or I would have gave him the money to get some books. I have no problem encouraging them to read.  Anyway, he bought a couple books in a series and read through them all.  He’d say, mom I’m going upstairs to read.  He’d be up there for 45 minute and come down and tell me about what’s going on his book without me prompting him.

Anytime I can get my kids to read instead of sitting in front of the TV or game system is good.  Reading let’s your imagination run, helps increase vocabulary, and I think it can be relaxing if you have a good book.

Kellogg’s understand how reading at home can be positive and also have a impact on student’s success in the classroom.  They’ve partnered with Walmart and Scholastic Book Clubs for a really great initiative.  When you purchase specially marked Kellogg’s products at Walmart parents can redeem a coupon for a FREE Scholastic book of their child’s choice.

Kellogg’s generously sent us a package of some tasty Kellogg’s products and a selection of Scholastic Books.

I decided to make some of these books stocking stuffers for the kids.  There was one book though I wanted to read to my youngest, The Littlest Pumpkin.  I thought it was such a cute story and he seemed interested in it.  I’ve heard that reading to your children at a young age can  help encourage their love or reading in the future and increase their vocabulary.

The great Kellogg’s product package is a hit in our house.  We love the Chips Deluxe cookies and Cheez its.  The kids have been eating frosted flakes for breakfast and snacks.
