I’ll admit it, I don’t eat enough seafood.  I know I should but I don’t.  One reason I guess is because in general for me to eat a fish fillet by itself is probably not going to happen.  My tastes have changed as I got older and started to like things I never did before.  I love shrimp, breaded clams, crab legs, but never was a fan of fish as far as a fillet.  Then I tried Gorton’s Potato Crunch fish fillets and absolutely love them.  I mean, truly I thought they were tasty and even the kids liked them.  So thanks to Gortons, they started opening my mind to seafood.

I know there are health benefits to eating seafood.  Did you know that Omega-3 fatty acids occur naturally in fish?  Studies show that diets that contain Omega-3 fatty acids just may promote heart health.  While this is still being studied but research has shown that it can reduce inflammation which is a known cause of heart disease and stroke.  The American Heart Association even recommends a diet that include eating seafood twice a week.

Other benefits to eating seafood can include:
–decreased blood pressure, triglycerides, and cholesterol
–improve arthritis and joint pain
–support eye health
–enhance brain growth and development
–aid brain growth in unborn babies, and in children and infants
–decrease risk of certain cancers
–reduce symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease

Gorton’s also offer 20 choices that are under 200 calories so you can stick to your diet too.

I decided that I was going to try something new with this review.  My kids were going to try something new with this review.  So I chose to test out one of Gorton’s many recipes on their site using their Classic Grilled Salmon in their Grilled Gloucester Roll-Up recipe.  I’m all about easy and finding ways to get veggies in the kids diet so this was an added benefit to this recipe.

This is all the ingredients you need to make the Grilled Gloucester Roll up. It was super easy to make.  My oldest son wanted to help.  While we had the Gorton’s Grilled Salmon in the oven we worked on making the rice and mixing the ingredients for the rice once the rice was fully cooked.

The rice is simply 2 cups of cooked rice, 4 tbsp of butter, and 1/4 c of lemon juice.  While he was stirring the rice mixture I chopped the green and red paper.  you only need 1/2 of each.  We then layed out the tortillas and spread 1/2 c rice on one side and put the peppers and the grilled salmon strips (we cut) on the other.

You’re supposed roll it and secure it with a toothpick.  I’m not the best roller. I have no idea how they get it so neat and get it to stay in place even after you cut it.  BUT, we got the basic idea down.

You’re supposed to cut it up into little rolls.  You can see how mine turned out but none the less we were able to eat it. Really it was pretty good.  The lemon juice in the rice really helped to add something to the salmon.  This is an easy way to add seafood to your diet.  I’m thinking these wraps might be good with the clam strips Gortons offers as well.  I’m gonna have to give it a try.  You can find even more Gorton’s Seafood recipes here Gorton’s Gallery.
